Luke 10:26

What is written in the law?
&c.] Christ, with great propriety, sends him to the law, to see and observe what was written there, what are the terms and conditions of life, as fixed there; partly, because this man, by his office and character, was an interpreter of the law; and partly, because his question was, what shall I do?

how readest thou?
in the law, every day; referring to the "Keriat Shema", the reading of the Shema, i.e. those words in ( Deuteronomy 6:4 ) , &c, "Hear, O Israel" morning and evening ^F9 as appears by his answer

24 perciocchè io vi dico, che molti profeti, e re, hanno desiderato di veder le cose che voi vedete, e non le hanno vedute, e di udir le cose che voi udite, e non le hanno udite.

25 ALLORA ecco, un certo dottor della legge si levò, tentandolo, e dicendo: Maestro, facendo che, erediterò la vita eterna?

26 Ed egli gli disse: Nella legge che è egli scritto? come leggi?

27 E colui, rispondendo, disse: Ama il Signore Iddio tuo con tutto il tuo cuore, e con tutta l’anima tua, e con tutta la forza tua, e con tutta la mente tua; e il tuo prossimo come te stesso.

28 Ed egli gli disse: Tu hai dirittamente risposto; fa’ ciò, e viverai.
