8 Quando tu sarai invitato da alcuno a nozze, non metterti a tavola nel primo luogo, che talora alcuno più onorato di te non sia stato invitato dal medesimo.

Luke 14:8

When thou art bidden of any man to a wedding
To a wedding dinner, or to any other; such an one as the present entertainment was, which was not a marriage feast, for they might not marry on the sabbath day; (See Gill on John 2:1) but a common sabbath meal:

sit not down in the highest room:
in the chief place at table, as soon as come in:

lest a more honourable man;
for age, office, dignity, wisdom, learning, or riches:

than thou be bidden of him:
the master of the feast; and who may not yet be come, and for whom the chief place may be designed, and will better suit him.

6 Ed essi non gli potevan risponder nulla in contrario a queste cose.

7 ORA, considerando come essi eleggevano i primi luoghi a tavola, propose questa parabola agl’invitati, dicendo:

8 Quando tu sarai invitato da alcuno a nozze, non metterti a tavola nel primo luogo, che talora alcuno più onorato di te non sia stato invitato dal medesimo.

9 E che colui che avrà invitato te e lui, non venga, e ti dica: Fa’ luogo a costui; e che allora tu venga con vergogna a tener l’ultimo luogo.

10 Ma, quando tu sarai invitato, va’, mettiti nell’ultimo luogo, acciocchè, quando colui che t’avrà invitato verrà, ti dica: Amico, sali più in su. Allora tu ne avrai onore appresso coloro che saranno teco a tavola.
