Ezechiele 32:1-16

1 AVVENNE eziandio, nell’anno duodecimo, nel duodecimo mese, nel primo giorno del mese, che la parola del Signore mi fu indirizzata, dicendo:

2 Figliuol d’uomo, prendi a fare un lamento di Faraone, re di Egitto, e digli: Tu sei stato simile ad un leoncello fra le nazioni, e come un coccodrillo ne’ mari, ed uscivi fuori per li tuoi fiumi, e intorbidavi le acque co’ tuoi piedi, e calpestavi i lor fiumi.

3 Così ha detto il Signore Iddio: Io altresì stenderò la mia rete sopra te, con raunata di molti popoli, i quali ti trarranno fuori con la mia rete.

4 E ti lascerò sopra la terra, e ti getterò sopra la faccia della campagna; e farò albergar sopra te tutti gli uccelli del cielo, e sazierò di te le fiere di tutta la terra.

5 E metterò la tua carne su per li monti, ed empierò le valli della tua strage.

6 Ed abbevererò del tuo sangue la terra nella quale tu nuoti, fin sopra i monti; e i letti de’ fiumi saran ripieni di te.

7 E quando ti avrò spento, io coprirò il cielo, e farò imbrunir le stelle loro; io coprirò il sol di nuvoli, e la luna non farà risplendere il suo lume.

8 Io farò scurare sopra te tutti i luminari della luce nel cielo, e manderò tenebre sopra il tuo paese, dice il Signore Iddio.

9 E farò che il cuore di molti popoli si sdegnerà, quando avrò fatto pervenire il grido della tua ruina fra le genti, in paesi che tu non conosci.

10 E farò che molti popoli saranno attoniti di te, e che i loro re avranno orrore per cagion di te, quando io vibrerò la mia spada nel lor cospetto; e ciascun d’essi sarà spaventato ad ogni momento nell’animo suo, nel giorno della tua caduta.

11 Perciocchè, così ha detto il Signore Iddio: La spada del re di Babilonia ti sopraggiungerà.

12 Io farò cader la tua moltitudine per le spade d’uomini possenti, che son tutti quanti i più fieri delle nazioni; ed essi guasteranno la magnificenza di Egitto, e tutta la sua moltitudine sarà distrutta.

13 Ed io farò perire tutto il suo bestiame d’in su le grandi acque; e niun piè d’uomo, nè unghia di bestia, le intorbiderà più.

14 Allora farò che le acque loro si poseranno, e che i lor fiumi correranno a guisa d’olio, dice il Signore Iddio;

15 quando avrò ridotto il paese di Egitto in desolazione, e il paese sarà deserto, e vuoto di tutto ciò ch’è in esso; quando avrò in esso percossi tutti i suoi abitatori; e si conoscerà che io sono il Signore.

16 Questo è un lamento, il qual si farà; le figliuole delle nazioni lo faranno; lo faranno intorno all’Egitto, e a tutta la sua moltitudine, dice il Signore Iddio.

INTRODUCTION TO EZEKIEL 32

This chapter contains two more prophecies concerning the destruction of Egypt. The date of the first is given, Eze 22:1, in which the king of Egypt is compared to a large fish taken in a net, and brought to land, and left on it, to be the prey of the fowls of the air and beasts of the field, Eze 32:2-4, and the ruin of that kingdom is further amplified by the casting of it on the mountains and valleys; by the land flowing with its blood; by the darkness of the heavens; by the vexation in the hearts of many people; and by the amazement of kings and nations, Eze 32:5-10, the means and instruments of all which will be the king of Babylon and his army, Eze 32:11,12, the devastation made by him, which would be such as would cause lamentation in other nations, is described, Eze 32:13-16, then follows the other prophecy, whose date is given, Eze 32:17, the prophet is bid to lament the fall of Egypt, which is represented under the funeral of a corpse, Eze 32:18-20, saluted by those gone down to the grave before, or were become desolate; which are mentioned, to assure Egypt of its destruction, Eze 32:21 as the Assyrian empire, and all its provinces, Eze 32:22,23, the Persians and Medes, with all their dominions, Eze 32:24,25, the posterity of Meshech and Tubal, or the Scythians, those warlike people, Eze 32:26-28, the Edomites, the princes of the north, and all the Zidonians, Eze 32:29,30 which would be a comfort, though a poor one to the king of Egypt and his subjects, to have such company with them, Eze 32:31,32.
