1 Samuel 18:14 Meaning and Commentary

1 Samuel 18:14

And David behaved himself wisely in all his ways
Both in the court and in the camp, in whatsoever service he was employed; or "prospered" F21, as the word also signifies; for, generally speaking, those that behave wisely succeed well; in this he was a type of Christ, ( Isaiah 52:13 ) ; the reason of it follows,

and the Lord [was] with him;
from whom he had his wisdom and success; the Targum is,

``the Word of the Lord was for his help.''

1 Samuel 18:14 In-Context

12 Sha'ul was afraid of David, because the LORD was with him, and was departed from Sha'ul.
13 Therefore Sha'ul removed him from him, and made him his captain over a thousand; and he went out and came in before the people.
14 David behaved himself wisely in all his ways; and the LORD was with him.
15 When Sha'ul saw that he behaved himself very wisely, he stood in awe of him.
16 But all Yisra'el and Yehudah loved David; for he went out and came in before them.
