Proverbs 1:25 Meaning and Commentary

Proverbs 1:25

But ye have set at nought all my counsel
The same with "the counsel of God", ( Acts 20:27 ) . The whole Gospel, and all the truths of it; the entire scheme of salvation by Jesus Christ, which is the produce of divine wisdom, and is according to the counsel of the divine will, and his eternal purpose in Christ Jesus; this the Jews set at nought, made no account of, but despised and rejected, as they did Christ, the author of it, ( Acts 4:11 Acts 4:12 ) ; as also his ordinances, which go by the same name, because of the wisdom and will of God in them; particularly baptism, rejected by the Scribes and Pharisees, ( Luke 7:30 ) ; and would none of my reproof;
would not hearken to it, nor take it, nor receive any instruction from it nor caution by it; did not like it, but contemned it, and trampled upon it; see ( Matthew 23:37 ) .

Proverbs 1:25 In-Context

23 Turn at my reproof. Behold, I will pour out my spirit on you. I will make known my words to you.
24 Because I have called, and you have refused; I have stretched out my hand, and no one has paid attention;
25 But you have ignored all my counsel, And wanted none of my reproof;
26 I also will laugh at your disaster. I will mock when calamity overtakes you;
27 When calamity overtakes you like a storm, When your disaster comes on like a whirlwind; When distress and anguish come on you.
