And the kingsaid to Esther on the seconddayalso as they drank their wine at the banquet, "What is your petition, QueenEsther? It shall be granted you. And what is your request? Even to half of the kingdom it shall be done."

Then QueenEstherreplied, "If I have foundfavor in your sight, O king, and if it pleases the king, let my life be given me as my petition, and my people as my request;

for we have been sold, I and my people, to be destroyed, to be killed and to be annihilated. Now if we had only been sold as slaves*, men and women, I would have remainedsilent, for the trouble would not be commensurate with the annoyance to the king."

The kingarose in his anger from drinkingwine and went into the palacegarden; but Hamanstayed to beg for his life from QueenEsther, for he saw that harm had been determinedagainst him by the king.

Now when the kingreturned from the palacegarden into the placewhere they were drinkingwine, Haman was falling on the couchwhere*Esther was. Then the kingsaid, "Will he evenassault the queen with me in the house?" As the wordwent out of the king'smouth, they coveredHaman'sface.

Then Harbonah, one of the eunuchs who were before the kingsaid, "Beholdindeed, the gallowsstanding at Haman'shousefiftycubitshigh, whichHamanmade for Mordecaiwhospokegood on behalf of the king!" And the kingsaid, "Hang him on it."
