Psalms 81:2

Take a psalm
Or "lift one up" F25; hold up the book, and read and sing it; or rather, lift up the voice in singing a psalm:

and bring hither the timbrel;
or "give one" F26, put the hand to one:

the pleasant harp with the psaltery;
make use of all these musical instruments in singing, and so make an agreeable melody: these were used in the times of the Old Testament, and were typical of the spiritual joy and melody in the heart, expressed by vocal singing, under the New Testament; see ( Revelation 5:8 ) ( Revelation 14:2 Revelation 14:3 ) ( 15:2 ) .

Psalm 81:2 In-Context

1 Sing aloud unto God our strength; make a joyful noise unto the God of Jacob.
2 Take the song and play the timbrel, the harp of joy with the psaltery.
3 Blow the shofar in the new moon in the time appointed on our solemn feast day.
4 For this is a statute of Israel and an ordinance of the God of Jacob.
5 This he ordained in Joseph for a testimony, when he went out through the land of Egypt where I heard a language that I did not understand.
