When the uncleanspirit is gone out of a man, he walkeththroughdryplaces,seekingrest;andfindingnone, he saith, I will returnuntomyhousewhence I came out.

And when he cometh, he findeth it sweptandgarnished.

Then goeth he, andtaketh to him sevenotherspirits more wicked than himself;and they enter in, and dwellthere:and the last state of thatmanisworse than the first.

And it came to pass, ashespake these things, a certainwomanof the company lifted up her voice, and said unto him,Blessed is the womb that barethee,and the papswhich thou hast sucked.

Buthesaid, Yea rather,blessed are they that hear the word of God,andkeepit.

And when the people were gathered thick together, he began to say, Thisis an evilgeneration: they seek a sign;and there shallnosign be givenit,but the sign of Jonas the prophet.

ForasJonaswas a sign unto the Ninevites,soshallalso the Son of manbe to thisgeneration.

The queen of the south shall rise upin the judgmentwith the men of thisgeneration,andcondemnthem:for she camefrom the utmost parts of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon;and,behold, a greater thanSolomon is here.
32
The men of Nineve shall rise upin the judgmentwiththisgeneration,and shall condemnit:for they repentedat the preaching of Jonas;and,behold, a greater thanJonas is here.

Noman, when he hath lighted a candle,putteth it in a secret place,neitherunder a bushel,buton a candlestick,that they which come in may see the light.

The light of the bodyis the eye:thereforewhenthineeyeissingle,thywholebodyalsois full of light;butwhen thine eye isevil,thybodyalso is full of darkness.

Take heedtherefore that the lightwhich is intheebenotdarkness.

Ifthywholebodytherefore be full of light,havingno*partdark, the whole shall be full of light,aswhen the bright shining of a candle doth givetheelight.

Andas he spake, a certainPhariseebesoughthimtodinewithhim:and he went in, and sat down to meat.

And when the Phariseesaw it, he marvelledthat he hadnotfirstwashedbeforedinner.

And the Lordsaiduntohim,NowdoyePharisees make clean the outside of the cupand the platter;butyour inward part is full of raveningandwickedness.

Ye fools,didnot he that made that which is withoutmake that which is withinalso?

But rathergivealms of such things as ye have; and,behold, all thingsareclean unto you.

Butwoe unto you,Pharisees!for ye tithemintandrueand all manner of herbs,and pass overjudgmentand the love of God:these ought ye to have done, and not to leave the otherundone.

Woe unto you,Pharisees!for ye love the uppermost seatsin the synagogues,andgreetingsin the markets.
44
Woe unto you,scribesandPharisees,hypocrites!for ye areasgraveswhich appear not,and the men that walkover them arenot aware of them.
45
Thenansweredone of the lawyers, and said unto him,Master,thussaying thou reproachestusalso.
46
And he said, Woe unto youalso, ye lawyers!for ye lademen with burdens grievous to be borne,and ye yourselvestouchnot the burdens with one of yourfingers.
