John 11:8 Meaning and Commentary

John 11:8

[His] disciples said unto him, master
Addressing him very reverently, and with great concern for his safety, as well as their own:

the Jews of late,
or but now,

sought to stone thee;
as they had attempted to do twice in a very little time; see ( John 8:59 ) ( 10:31 ) ;

and goest thou thither again?
where there are so many enemies; and so much danger, and but little hope of doing much good; whereas here he was among his friends, and in safety, and very useful.

John 11:8 In-Context

6 So when he heard that he was sick, then he remained in the place {where} he was two days.
7 Then after this he said to the disciples, "Let us go to Judea again."
8 The disciples said to him, "Rabbi, the Jews were seeking just now to stone you, and are you going there again?"
9 Jesus replied, Are [there] not twelve hours in the day? If anyone walks around in the daylight, he does not stumble, because he sees the light of this world.
10 But if anyone walks around in the night, he stumbles, because the light is not in him.
