Mark 6:19

Therefore Herodias had a quarrel against him
Was angry with him, conceived wrath, and laid up hatred against him, and was an adversary to him; which is the sense of the Oriental versions. She bore him an inward grudge, and lay in wait to take the first opportunity of dispatching him:

and would have killed him, but she could not;
being hindered by Herod, who as yet would not suffer it; partly through fear of the people, and partly through the respect he had for John.

17 Car Hérode lui-même avait fait arrêter Jean, et l'avait fait lier en prison, à cause d'Hérodias, femme de Philippe, son frère, parce qu'il l'avait épousée,
18 et que Jean lui disait: Il ne t'est pas permis d'avoir la femme de ton frère.
19 Hérodias était irritée contre Jean, et voulait le faire mourir. Mais elle ne le pouvait;
20 car Hérode craignait Jean, le connaissant pour un homme juste et saint; il le protégeait, et, après l'avoir entendu, il était souvent perplexe, et l'écoutait avec plaisir.
21 Cependant, un jour propice arriva, lorsque Hérode, à l'anniversaire de sa naissance, donna un festin à ses grands, aux chefs militaires et aux principaux de la Galilée.
