Psalms 37:8

Cease from anger
Either at these wicked men who are so prosperous, or at God, who for the present suffers it; see ( Jonah 4:9 ) ( Proverbs 19:3 ) ;

and forsake wrath;
which is anger wrought up to a greater degree; and the rather to be shunned and avoided, as being very disagreeable to the character of a good man;

fret not thyself in any wise to do evil;
evil may be done by fretting at the prosperity of wicked men, or by imitating them, doing as they do, in hope of being prosperous as they are; from which the psalmist dissuades by reasons following.

6 Il fera paraître ta justice comme la lumière, Et ton droit comme le soleil à son midi.
7 Garde le silence devant l'Eternel, et espère en lui; Ne t'irrite pas contre celui qui réussit dans ses voies, Contre l'homme qui vient à bout de ses mauvais desseins.
8 Laisse la colère, abandonne la fureur; Ne t'irrite pas, ce serait mal faire.
9 Car les méchants seront retranchés, Et ceux qui espèrent en l'Eternel posséderont le pays.
10 Encore un peu de temps, et le méchant n'est plus; Tu regardes le lieu où il était, et il a disparu.
