Jeremias 51:35

35 And wilt thou seek great things for thyself? seek not: for, behold, I bring evil upon all flesh, saith the Lord: but I will give thy life for a spoil in every place whither thou shalt go.

Jeremias 51:35 Meaning and Commentary

Jeremiah 51:35

The violence done to me, and to my flesh, [be] upon Babylon,
&c.] That is, let the injuries done to Zion and her children, be avenged on Babylon; the hurt done to their persons and families, and the spoiling of their goods, and destruction of their cities, houses, and substance: shall the inhabitant of Zion say;
by way of imprecation: and my blood upon the inhabitants of Chaldea, shall Jerusalem say;
let the guilt of it be charged upon them, and punishment for it be inflicted on them. The Targum is,

``the sin of the innocent blood which is shed in me;''
let that be imputed to them, and vengeance come upon them for it.

Jeremias 51:35 In-Context

33 Whereas thou hast said, Alas! alas! for the Lord has laid a grievous trouble upon me; I lay down in groaning, I found no rest;
34 say thou to him, Thus saith the Lord; Behold, I pull down those whom I have built up, and I pluck up those whom I have planted.
35 And wilt thou seek great things for thyself? seek not: for, behold, I bring evil upon all flesh, saith the Lord: but I will give thy life for a spoil in every place whither thou shalt go.
