Genesis 31:11 Meaning and Commentary

Genesis 31:11

And the Angel of God spake unto me in a dream
In the same dream before related, and to direct him to observe what was presented to him, and to confirm what he saw, and lead him to the design and use of it. This was not a created angel, but the eternal one, the Son of God, and who is afterwards called God, and to whom Jacob had made a vow, which he would never have done to an angel; but to God only, as Ben Melech observes: [saying], Jacob; and I said, here [am] I;
the Angel called him by his name, to which he answered, and signified that he was ready to attend to whatsoever he should say to him.

Genesis 31:11 In-Context

9 Over and over God used your father's livestock to reward me.
10 "Once, while the flocks were mating, I had a dream and saw the billy goats, all of them streaked, speckled, and mottled, mounting their mates.
11 In the dream an angel of God called out to me, 'Jacob!' "I said, 'Yes?'
12 "He said, 'Watch closely. Notice that all the goats in the flock that are mating are streaked, speckled, and mottled. I know what Laban's been doing to you.
13 I'm the God of Bethel where you consecrated a pillar and made a vow to me. Now be on your way, get out of this place, go home to your birthplace.'"
