12 the land I gave Abraham and Isaac I now give to you, and pass it on to your descendants.

Genesis 35:12 Meaning and Commentary

Genesis 35:12

And the land which I gave Abraham and Isaac, to thee will I
give it
Meaning the land of Canaan, which, as he had by promise given it to his grandfather, and father, so he would give it to him; thus renewing the grant of it for his comfort, and the encouragement of his faith, when he had been in danger of being destroyed by the inhabitants of it, and was obliged to remove from one part of it to another: and to thy seed after thee will I give the land;
and not only make a grant of it to them, but put them into the possession of it, as in process of time he did.

Genesis 35:12 In-Context

10 "Your name is Jacob (Heel); but that's your name no longer. From now on your name is Israel (God-Wrestler)."
11 God continued, I am The Strong God. Have children! Flourish! A nation - a whole company of nations! - will come from you. Kings will come from your loins;
12 the land I gave Abraham and Isaac I now give to you, and pass it on to your descendants.
13 And then God was gone, ascended from the place where he had spoken with him.
14 Jacob set up a stone pillar on the spot where God had spoken with him. He poured a drink offering on it and anointed it with oil.
