Mark 14:53 Meaning and Commentary

Mark 14:53

And they led Jesus away to the high priest
Caiaphas, as is added in the Syriac, Arabic, and Persic versions. This was done, after they had took Jesus and bound, him, and after they had had him to Annas, who sent him bound to Caiaphas; see ( John 18:12 John 18:13 John 18:24 ) ;

and with him,
the high priest Caiaphas,

were assembled all the chief priests, and the elders, and the
Scribes;
even the whole sanhedrim, who met at Caiaphas's house, and were waiting there for Jesus; whom Judas with his band of soldiers and others, were gone to secure, and brng before them; (See Gill on Matthew 26:57).

Mark 14:53 In-Context

51 A young man was following along. All he had on was a bedsheet. Some of the men grabbed him
52 but he got away, running off naked, leaving them holding the sheet.
53 They led Jesus to the Chief Priest, where the high priests, religious leaders, and scholars had gathered together.
54 Peter followed at a safe distance until they got to the Chief Priest's courtyard, where he mingled with the servants and warmed himself at the fire.
55 The high priests conspiring with the Jewish Council looked high and low for evidence against Jesus by which they could sentence him to death. They found nothing.
