Psalms 81:2

Take a psalm
Or "lift one up" F25; hold up the book, and read and sing it; or rather, lift up the voice in singing a psalm:

and bring hither the timbrel;
or "give one" F26, put the hand to one:

the pleasant harp with the psaltery;
make use of all these musical instruments in singing, and so make an agreeable melody: these were used in the times of the Old Testament, and were typical of the spiritual joy and melody in the heart, expressed by vocal singing, under the New Testament; see ( Revelation 5:8 ) ( Revelation 14:2 Revelation 14:3 ) ( 15:2 ) .

Psalm 81:2 In-Context

1 A song to our strong God! a shout to the God of Jacob!
2 Anthems from the choir, music from the band, sweet sounds from lute and harp,
3 Trumpets and trombones and horns: it's festival day, a feast to God!
4 A day decreed by God, solemnly ordered by the God of Jacob.
5 He commanded Joseph to keep this day so we'd never forget what he did in Egypt. I hear this most gentle whisper from One I never guessed would speak to me:
