1 On 1the thirdday there was a wedding in 2Cana of Galilee, and the 3mother of Jesus was there;
2
and bothJesus and His 4disciples were invited to the wedding.
3
When the wineran out, the mother of Jesussaid to Him, "They havenowine."
4
And Jesussaid to her, "5Woman, 6what does that have to do with us? 7My hourhas not yetcome."
5
His 8mothersaid to the servants, "Whatever** He says to you, do it."
6
Now there were sixstonewaterpotssetthere9for the Jewish custom of purification, containingtwentyorthirtygallonseach.
7
Jesussaid to them, "Fill the waterpots with water."So they filled them up to the brim.
8
And He said to them, "Draw some out now and take it to the headwaiter."So they took it to him.
9
When the headwaitertasted the water10which had becomewine, and did not knowwhere it came from (but the servants who had drawn the waterknew ), the headwaitercalled the bridegroom,
10
and said to him, "Everymanserves the goodwinefirst, and when the people 11have drunkfreely, then he serves the poorer wine; but you have kept the goodwineuntilnow."
11
Thisbeginning of His 12signsJesusdid in Cana of 13Galilee, and manifested His 14glory, and His disciplesbelieved in Him.
12
Afterthis He wentdown to 15Capernaum, He and His 16mother and His 17brothers and His 18disciples; and they stayedthere a few*days.
First Passover--Cleansing the Temple
1319The Passover of the Jews was near, and Jesus20went up to Jerusalem.
14
21And He found in the templethose who were sellingoxen and sheep and doves, and the moneychangersseated at their tables.
15
And He made a scourge of cords, and drove them all out of the temple, with the sheep and the oxen; and He poured out the coins of the moneychangers and overturned their tables;
16
and to those who were selling22the doves He said, "Takethesethingsaway; stopmaking23My Father'shouse a place of business."
17
His 24disciplesremembered that it was written, "25ZEAL FOR YOUR HOUSE WILL CONSUME ME."
18
26The Jewsthensaid to Him, "27Whatsign do You show us as your authority for doingthesethings?"
19
Jesusanswered them, "28Destroythistemple, and in threedays I will raise it up."
20
29The Jewsthensaid, "It took 30forty-six**years to buildthistemple, and will You raise it up in threedays?"
21
But He was speaking of 31the temple of His body.
22
Sowhen He was raised from the dead, His 32disciples33remembered that He saidthis; and they believed34the Scripture and the wordwhichJesus had spoken.
23
Nowwhen He was in Jerusalem at 35the Passover, during the feast, manybelieved in His name, 36observing His signswhich He was doing.
24
But Jesus, on His part, was not entrustingHimself to them, for 37He knewallmen,
25
and because He did not needanyone to testifyconcerningman, 38for He Himselfknewwhat was in man.
