Psalms 107:25 Meaning and Commentary

Psalms 107:25

For he commandeth, and raiseth the stormy wind
Winds are not raised by men, nor by devils, nor by angels, but by the Lord himself; who has created them, holds them in his fist, brings them out of his treasures, and sends them forth to do his will; if he speaks the word, gives but the order, a storm arises at once, and executes what he pleases, ( Psalms 148:8 ) .

Which lifteth up the waves thereof;
that is, the waves of the sea; it comes down into it, and causes surges; which rise above the ship, and sometimes cover it, and ready to sink it; yea, even they are lifted up to the heavens, as it follows.

Psalms 107:25 In-Context

23 Others went out to sea in ships and did business on the great oceans.
24 They saw what the Lord could do, the miracles he did in the deep oceans.
25 He spoke, and a storm came up, which blew up high waves.
26 The ships were tossed as high as the sky and fell low to the depths. The storm was so bad that they lost their courage.
27 They stumbled and fell like people who were drunk. They did not know what to do.
