Psalms 44:25

25 We have been pushed down into the dirt; we are flat on the ground.

Psalms 44:25 Meaning and Commentary

Psalms 44:25

For our soul is bowed down to the dust
Which may signify great declension in spiritual things, much dejection of mind, and little exercise of grace, ( Psalms 119:25 ) ( Lamentations 3:29 ) ; or a very low estate in temporals; subjection to their enemies; they setting their feet upon their necks, and obliging them to lick the dust of them: and even it may signify nearness to death itself; see ( Joshua 10:24 ) ( Isaiah 49:23 ) ( Psalms 22:16 ) ;

our belly cleaveth to the earth;
as persons that lie prostrate, being conquered and suppliants.

Psalms 44:25 In-Context

23 Wake up, Lord! Why are you sleeping? Get up! Don't reject us forever.
24 Why do you hide from us? Have you forgotten our pain and troubles?
25 We have been pushed down into the dirt; we are flat on the ground.
26 Get up and help us. Because of your love, save us.
