Psalms 98:4

4 Shout with joy to the Lord, all the earth; burst into songs and make music.

Psalms 98:4 Meaning and Commentary

Psalms 98:4

Make a joyful noise unto the Lord, all the earth
That is, all the inhabitants of the earth, as the Targum, to whom the joyful sound of the Gospel comes; (See Gill on Psalms 95:1),

make a loud noise, rejoice, and sing praise;
exalt and extend the voice to the highest pitch, in the most musical and melodious strains; this heap of words is used to express the intenseness of mind, vehemency of affection, and strength of spirit and exceeding greatness of joy, with which the Lord should be praised for his great and marvellous works.

Psalms 98:4 In-Context

2 The Lord has made known his power to save; he has shown the other nations his victory for his people.
3 He has remembered his love and his loyalty to the people of Israel. All the ends of the earth have seen God's power to save.
4 Shout with joy to the Lord, all the earth; burst into songs and make music.
5 Make music to the Lord with harps, with harps and the sound of singing.
6 Blow the trumpets and the sheep's horns; shout for joy to the Lord the King.
