Isaiah 63:4

4 I decided it was time to pay Israel's enemies back. The year for me to set my people free had come.

Isaiah 63:4 Meaning and Commentary

Isaiah 63:4

For the day of vengeance is in my heart
Resolved on with him, fixed by him, and which is desirable to him; he has it at heart, and longs as it were till the time is come to avenge the blood of his saints on the Romish antichrist, whom he will destroy with the breath of his mouth, and the brightness of his coming; see ( 2 Thessalonians 2:8 ) and when he shall pour out all his vials on the antichristian states, and revenge the cause and quarrel of his people, ( Revelation 16:1 Revelation 16:6 Revelation 16:7 ) ( 18:20 ) ( 19:2 ) : and the year of my redeemed is come;
the time when those who are already redeemed by the blood of Christ, and so are his property, whom he claims as his own, being the purchase of his blood, shall be redeemed again from antichristian bondage and slavery, shall be called and brought out of Babylon; and when those, who have led them captive, shall go into captivity themselves: this will be a jubilee year to the saints; a time of refreshing from the presence of the Lord; when, being rid of all their persecuting enemies, they will enjoy the utmost peace, prosperity, and safety; see ( Revelation 13:10 ) ( 18:4 ) ( Revelation 19:20 Revelation 19:21 ) .

Isaiah 63:4 In-Context

2 Why are your clothes red? They look as if you have been stomping on grapes in a winepress.
3 The LORD answers, "I have been stomping on the nations as if they were grapes. No one was there to help me. I walked all over the nations because I was angry. That is why I stomped on them. Their blood splashed all over my clothes. So my clothes were stained bright red.
4 I decided it was time to pay Israel's enemies back. The year for me to set my people free had come.
5 I looked around, but no one was there to help me. I was shocked that no one gave me any help. So I used my own powerful arm to save my people. I had the strength to do it because I was angry.
6 I walked all over the nations because I was angry with them. I made them drink from the cup of my burning anger. I poured their blood out on the ground."
