Deuteronomy 7:18 Meaning and Commentary

Deuteronomy 7:18

Thou shalt not be afraid of them
Neither on account of their number, nor their strength:

but shall well remember what the Lord thy God did unto Pharaoh, and
unto all Egypt;
a people more numerous and potent than the Canaanites, among whom the Lord wrought such wonderful things by his power, which obliged them to let Israel go; and his power was now the same, he could do as great things to the Canaanites as he had to the Egyptians; and as he had delivered them out of the hands of the Egyptians, he could as easily deliver the Canaanites into their hands, and put them into the possession of their country.

Deuteronomy 7:18 In-Context

16 You shall devour all the peoples that the Lord your God is giving over to you, showing them no pity; you shall not serve their gods, for that would be a snare to you.
17 If you say to yourself, "These nations are more numerous than I; how can I dispossess them?"
18 do not be afraid of them. Just remember what the Lord your God did to Pharaoh and to all Egypt,
19 the great trials that your eyes saw, the signs and wonders, the mighty hand and the outstretched arm by which the Lord your God brought you out. The Lord your God will do the same to all the peoples of whom you are afraid.
20 Moreover, the Lord your God will send the pestilence against them, until even the survivors and the fugitives are destroyed.
