70 All of them asked, "Are you, then, the Son of God?" He said to them, "You say that I am."

Luke 22:70

Then said they all
The whole sanhedrim, with one voice, being greedy to lay hold on, and improve these words, that they might have something to lay to his charge:

art thou the Son of God?
for they knew that the Messiah, or the son of man, that was to sit at the right hand of God, and come in the clouds of heaven, was the Son of God:

and he said unto them, ye say that I am;
or rather the words may be rendered, "ye say it", and ye say right; it is the very truth: "for I am"; that is, "the Son of God", as the Ethiopic version here adds; which sense agrees with ( Mark 14:62 ) and the following words seem to require this sense and version.
