1 Reyes 19:1-9

1 Elías huye a Sinaí
Cuando Acab llegó a su casa, le contó a Jezabel todo lo que Elías había hecho, incluso la manera en que había matado a todos los profetas de Baal.

2 Entonces Jezabel le mandó este mensaje a Elías: «Que los dioses me hieran e incluso me maten si mañana a esta hora yo no te he matado, así como tú los mataste a ellos».

3 Elías tuvo miedo y huyó para salvar su vida. Se fue a Beerseba, una ciudad de Judá, y dejó allí a su sirviente.

4 Luego siguió solo todo el día hasta llegar al desierto. Se sentó bajo un solitario árbol de retama y pidió morirse: «Basta ya, Señor
; quítame la vida, porque no soy mejor que mis antepasados que ya murieron».

5 Entonces se acostó y durmió debajo del árbol. Mientras dormía, un ángel lo tocó y le dijo: «¡Levántate y come!».

6 Elías miró a su alrededor, y cerca de su cabeza había un poco de pan horneado sobre piedras calientes y un jarro de agua. Así que comió y bebió, y volvió a acostarse.

7 Entonces el ángel del Señor
regresó, lo tocó y le dijo: «Levántate y come un poco más, de lo contrario, el viaje que tienes por delante será demasiado para ti».

8 Entonces se levantó, comió y bebió, y la comida le dio fuerza suficiente para viajar durante cuarenta días y cuarenta noches hasta llegar al monte Sinaí,
la montaña de Dios.

9 Allí llegó a una cueva, donde pasó la noche.
El Señor
le habla a Elías
Entonces el Señor
le dijo a Elías:
—¿Qué haces aquí, Elías?

INTRODUCTION TO 1 KINGS 19

This chapter gives us a further account of Elijah, of his being obliged to flee for his life through the threats of Jezebel, 1Ki 19:1-4, of the care the Lord took of him, providing food for him, in the strength of which he went to Horeb, 1Ki 19:5-8, of the Lord's appearance to him there, and conversation with him, 1Ki 19:9-14, of some instructions he gave him to anoint a king over Syria, another over Israel, and a prophet in his room, 1Ki 19:15-18, and of his finding Elisha, and throwing his mantle over him, who left his secular employment, and followed him, and became his servant, 1Ki 19:19-21.
