1 Samuel 19:6

And Saul hearkened unto the voice of Jonathan
Not only heard him out what he had to say, but was affected with it, and wrought upon by it, and was convicted for the present that he was wrong in seeking the life of David, and therefore would desist from it; the Lord working upon his mind by what Jonathan said, and inclined him to listen to it, and act accordingly:

and Saul sware, [as] the Lord liveth, he shall not be slain;
this oath he added to what he said to Jonathan, for the confirmation of it; and which was taken either with a real intention to keep it, though that intention did not long continue; or with a view to deceive Jonathan, that he might acquaint David with it, and so prevent his flight and escape, and that he might the more easily fall into his hands; but the former seems rather to be the case.

4 A la mañana siguiente, Jonatán habló con su padre acerca de David, diciéndole muchas cosas buenas de él.
—El rey no debe pecar contra su siervo David —le dijo Jonatán—. Él nunca ha hecho nada para dañarte. Siempre te ha ayudado en todo lo que ha podido.

5 ¿Te has olvidado de aquella vez cuando arriesgó su vida para matar al gigante filisteo y de cómo el Señor
le dio, como resultado, una gran victoria a Israel? Ciertamente estabas muy contento en aquel entonces. ¿Por qué habrías de matar a un hombre inocente como David? ¡No hay ningún motivo en absoluto!

6 Así que Saúl escuchó a Jonatán y juró:
—Tan cierto como que el Señor
vive, David no será muerto.

7 Después Jonatán llamó a David y le contó lo que había sucedido. Luego lo llevó ante Saúl, y David sirvió en la corte igual que antes.

8 Entonces la guerra se desató nuevamente, y David dirigió a sus tropas contra los filisteos. Los atacó con tanta furia que todos huyeron.
