1 Samuel 26:4

David therefore sent out spies
To observe if he was coming or come, and where he was, that he might not be surprised by him; for though David knew the Lord was and would be his protection, he thought proper to be upon his guard, and to make use of means for his safety:

and understood that Saul was come in very deed;
that he was most certainly come, and come to some certain place; which he himself went to reconnoitre, as in ( 1 Samuel 26:5 ) .

2 Entonces Saúl escogió a tres mil de los soldados selectos de Israel y salió con ellos a perseguir a David en el desierto de Zif.
3 Saúl acampó junto al camino que está al lado de la colina de Haquila, cerca de Jesimón, donde David se escondía. Cuando David se enteró de que Saúl había venido al desierto a perseguirlo,
4 envió espías para verificar la noticia de su llegada.
5 Cierta noche, David pasó desapercibido al campamento de Saúl para echar un vistazo. Saúl y Abner, hijo de Ner, el comandante del ejército, dormían dentro del círculo formado por sus guerreros, todos bien dormidos.
6 —¿Quién se ofrece a ir conmigo al campamento? —preguntó David a Ahimelec el hitita y a Abisai, hijo de Sarvia, hermano de Joab.
—Yo voy contigo —contestó Abisai.
