16 Hasta quitó el oro de las puertas del templo del Señor
y de los marcos de las puertas que había revestido con oro, y se lo dio todo al rey de Asiria.

2 Kings 18:16

At that time did Hezekiah cut off the gold from the doors of
the temple of the Lord
The plates of gold with which they were covered; or scraped off the gold from them, as the Targum interprets it:

and from the pillars which Hezekiah king of Judah had overlaid:
or the posts, as the Targum, the lintel or side posts of the doors of the temple; which though covered in Solomon's time, the gold was worn off, or had been taken off by Ahaz, but was renewed by Hezekiah; and who, in this time of distress, thought he might take it off again, no doubt with a full purpose to replace it, when he should be able. This is one of the three things the Talmudic writers ^F19 disapprove of in Hezekiah:

and gave it to the king of Assyria;
to make up the thirty talents of gold he demanded.

14 Entonces el rey Ezequías envió el siguiente mensaje al rey de Asiria que estaba en Laquis: «Yo he actuado mal. Si tú te retiras, te pagaré cualquier tributo que exijas». Así que el rey de Asiria exigió un pago de más de diez mil kilos de plata y mil kilos de oro.

15 Para reunir esta cantidad, el rey Ezequías usó toda la plata que estaba guardada en el templo del Señor
y en el tesoro del palacio.

16 Hasta quitó el oro de las puertas del templo del Señor
y de los marcos de las puertas que había revestido con oro, y se lo dio todo al rey de Asiria.

17 Sin embargo, el rey de Asiria mandó desde Laquis a su comandante en jefe, a su comandante de campo y a su jefe del Estado Mayor
con un enorme ejército para enfrentar al rey Ezequías en Jerusalén. Los asirios tomaron posición de batalla junto al acueducto que vierte el agua en el estanque superior, cerca del camino que lleva al campo donde se lavan
telas.

18 Mandaron llamar al rey Ezequías, pero el rey envió a tres funcionarios a recibirlos: Eliaquim, hijo de Hilcías, administrador del palacio; Sebna, secretario de la corte; y Joa, hijo de Asaf, historiador del reino.
