2 Samuel 13:30

And it came to pass while they were in the way
On their road homewards, before they got to Jerusalem:

that tidings came to David;
perhaps brought by one who was at the entertainment, who upon seeing Amnon smitten, immediately rose up and fled with the news of it to David:

saying, Absalom hath slain all the king's sons, and there is not one of
them left;
which he might suppose was the design of Absalom, and was done before that time; however, so it was ordered in Providence, that David, that rejoiced at the news of the death of Uriah, might be terrified with the tidings of the death of all his sons; and for a while it was as if it was really so, which occasioned the following behaviour in him.

28 Absalón les dijo a sus hombres:
—Esperen hasta que Amnón se emborrache; entonces, a mi señal, ¡mátenlo! No tengan miedo. Yo soy quien da la orden. ¡Anímense y háganlo!

29 Por lo tanto, cuando Absalón dio la señal, mataron a Amnón. Enseguida los otros hijos del rey montaron sus mulas y huyeron.

30 Mientras iban de regreso a Jerusalén, a David le llegó este informe: «Absalón mató a todos los hijos del rey, ¡ninguno quedó con vida!».

31 Entonces el rey se levantó, rasgó su túnica y se tiró al suelo. Sus consejeros también rasgaron sus ropas en señal de horror y tristeza.

32 Pero justo en ese momento, Jonadab el hijo de Simea, hermano de David, llegó y dijo:
—No, no crea que todos los hijos del rey están muertos, ¡solamente Amnón! Absalón había estado tramando esto desde que Amnón violó a su hermana Tamar.
