2 Samuel 3:9

So do God to Abner, and more also
He wishes the worst of evils to himself, such as he cared not to name; but left them to be supposed what he meant as utter ruin and destruction of himself, soul and body:

except as the Lord hath sworn to David, even so I do to him;
meaning if he did not do that David, which God had sworn should be done, namely, what follows, the translation of the kingdom to him; by which it appears that Abner knew of the promise and oath of God respecting this matter; and therefore acted against his conscience, in setting up Ishbosheth on the throne; which he knew would not prosper, and that he was fighting against God; which shows what a hardened wicked creature he was, and how far ambition, and being thought to be of consequence, will carry a man.

7 Cierto día Is-boset,
hijo de Saúl, acusó a Abner de haberse acostado con una de las concubinas de su padre, una mujer llamada Rizpa, hija de Aja.

8 Abner se puso furioso. «¿Soy acaso un perro de Judá para que me trates a patadas? —le gritó—. Después de todo lo que hice por tu padre Saúl, por su familia y por sus amigos al no entregarlos a David, ¿es mi recompensa que me culpes por lo de esta mujer?

9 ¡Que Dios me castigue y aun me mate si no hago todo lo posible para ayudar a David a que consiga lo que el Señor
le prometió!

10 Voy a tomar el reino de Saúl y entregárselo a David. Voy a establecer el reino de David sobre Israel al igual que sobre Judá, todo el territorio desde Dan en el norte hasta Beerseba en el sur».

11 Is-boset no se atrevió a decir ni una sola palabra más, porque tenía miedo de lo que Abner pudiera hacer.
