Ezra 4:22

Take heed now that ye fail not to do this
To put his orders into execution, and at once, without any loss of time, oblige the Jews to desist from rebuilding the walls of their city, which he was told they were doing, though a great falsehood:

why should damage grow to the hurt of the kings?
of him and his successors, to be deprived of their toll, tribute, and customs, and to have insurrections, mutinies, and rebellions, in the dominions belonging to them.

20 Reyes poderosos han gobernado Jerusalén y toda la provincia al occidente del río Éufrates, y han recibido tributos, derechos aduaneros y peajes.
21 Por lo tanto, emitan órdenes para que esos hombres dejen de trabajar. Queda prohibido reconstruir esa ciudad, a menos que yo lo ordene expresamente.
22 Sean diligentes y no descuiden este asunto, porque no debemos permitir que la situación perjudique los intereses del trono».
23 Cuando Rehum, Simsai y sus colegas oyeron la lectura de esa carta del rey Artajerjes, se fueron de prisa hacia Jerusalén. Entonces, con una demostración de fuerza, obligaron a los judíos a abandonar la construcción.
24 Se reanuda la reconstrucción
Por lo tanto, se detuvo la obra del templo de Dios en Jerusalén, y quedó suspendida hasta el segundo año del reinado de Darío, rey de Persia.
