Ezequiel 34

1 Los pastores de Israel
Después recibí este mensaje del Señor
:

2 «Hijo de hombre, profetiza contra los pastores, los líderes de Israel. Dales este mensaje de parte del Señor
Soberano: “¡Qué aflicción les espera a ustedes, pastores, que se alimentan a sí mismos en lugar de alimentar a sus rebaños! ¿Acaso los pastores no deben alimentar a sus ovejas?

3 Ustedes beben la leche, se visten con la lana y matan a los mejores animales, pero dejan que sus rebaños pasen hambre.

4 No han cuidado de las débiles; no se han ocupado de las enfermas ni han vendado las heridas; no salieron a buscar a las descarriadas y perdidas. En cambio, las gobernaron con mano dura y con crueldad.

5 Por eso mis ovejas se dispersaron sin pastor y son presa fácil de cualquier animal salvaje.

6 Han deambulado por todas las montañas y las colinas sobre la faz de la tierra; sin embargo, nadie salió a buscarlas.

7 »”Por lo tanto, pastores, oigan la palabra del Señor
:

8 tan cierto como que yo vivo, dice el Señor
Soberano, ustedes abandonaron a mi rebaño y lo expusieron al ataque de toda clase de animales salvajes. Aunque ustedes eran mis pastores, no salieron a buscar a mis ovejas cuando ellas se extraviaron. Se ocuparon de sí mismos y dejaron que las ovejas pasaran hambre.

9 Por lo tanto, pastores, oigan la palabra del Señor

10 Esto dice el Señor
Soberano: ahora me declaro enemigo de esos pastores y los haré responsables de lo que le sucedió a mi rebaño. Les quitaré el derecho de alimentar al rebaño y no dejaré que sigan alimentándose a sí mismos. Rescataré de su boca a mi rebaño; las ovejas ya no serán su presa.

11 El buen pastor
»”Esto dice el Señor
Soberano: yo mismo saldré a buscar a mis ovejas y las encontraré.

12 Seré como un pastor que busca al rebaño esparcido. Encontraré a mis ovejas y las rescataré de todos los lugares por donde quedaron esparcidas ese día oscuro y nublado.

13 Las sacaré de entre los demás pueblos y naciones y las traeré de regreso a casa, a su propia tierra. Las alimentaré en las montañas de Israel, junto a los ríos y en todos los lugares habitados.

14 Así es, les daré buenos pastizales en las altas colinas de Israel. Descansarán en lugares agradables y se alimentarán con los abundantes pastizales verdes de las colinas.

15 Yo mismo cuidaré de mis ovejas y les daré un lugar para que se recuesten en paz, dice el Señor
Soberano.

16 Buscaré a mis perdidas y las traeré sanas y salvas de regreso a casa. Vendaré a las heridas y fortaleceré a las débiles. Sin embargo, destruiré a las gordas y poderosas; ¡a ellas también les daré de comer, pero juicio!

17 »”En cuanto a ti, rebaño mío, esto dice el Señor
Soberano a su pueblo: juzgaré entre un animal del rebaño y otro, y separaré a las ovejas de las cabras.

18 ¿No les basta quedarse con los mejores pastizales? ¿También tienen que pisotear lo que queda? ¿No les basta con beber el agua cristalina? ¿También tienen que enturbiar con las patas el resto del agua?

19 ¿Por qué mi rebaño tiene que comer lo que ustedes han pisoteado y beber el agua que han ensuciado?

20 »”Por lo tanto, esto dice el Señor
Soberano: sin duda alguna, juzgaré entre las ovejas gordas y las ovejas escuálidas.

21 Pues ustedes, las ovejas gordas, han empujado, embestido y desplazado a mi rebaño enfermo y hambriento hasta esparcirlo por tierras lejanas.

22 Así que yo rescataré a mi rebaño y ya no será maltratado. Juzgaré entre un animal del rebaño y otro.

23 Sobre ellos pondré un solo pastor, a mi siervo David. Él las alimentará y será su pastor.

24 Yo, el Señor
, seré su Dios y mi siervo David será un príncipe en medio de mi pueblo. ¡Yo, el Señor
, he hablado!

25 Pacto de paz del Señor
»”Haré un pacto de paz con mi pueblo y alejaré de la tierra a los animales peligrosos. Entonces los israelitas podrán acampar seguros en los lugares más silvestres y dormir sin temor en el bosque.

26 Bendeciré a mi pueblo y a sus hogares alrededor de mi colina sagrada. En la temporada oportuna les enviaré las lluvias que necesiten; habrá lluvias de bendición.

27 Los huertos y los campos de mi pueblo darán cosechas abundantes y todos vivirán seguros. Una vez que yo rompa las cadenas de su esclavitud y los rescate de quienes los esclavizaron, entonces ellos sabrán que yo soy el Señor
.

28 Ya no serán presa de otras naciones, ni animales salvajes los devorarán. Vivirán seguros y nadie los atemorizará.

29 »”Haré que su tierra sea famosa por sus cosechas, para que mi pueblo nunca más pase hambre ni sufra los insultos de naciones extranjeras.

30 De ese modo, sabrán que yo, el Señor
su Dios, estoy con ellos y sabrán que ellos —los israelitas— son mi pueblo, dice el Señor
Soberano.

31 Ustedes son mi rebaño, las ovejas de mi prado. Ustedes son mi pueblo y yo soy su Dios. ¡Yo, el Señor
Soberano, he hablado!”».

Ezequiel 34 Commentary

Chapter 34

The rulers reproved. (1-6) The people are to be restored to their own land. (7-16) The kingdom of Christ. (17-31)

Verses 1-6 The people became as sheep without a shepherd, were given up as a prey to their enemies, and the land was utterly desolated. No rank or office can exempt from the reproofs of God's word, men who neglect their duty, and abuse the trust reposed in them.

Verses 7-16 The Lord declared that he intended mercy towards the scattered flock. Doubtless this, in the first place, had reference to the restoration of the Jews. It also represented the good Shepherd's tender care of the souls of his people. He finds them in their days of darkness and ignorance, and brings them to his fold. He comes to their relief in times of persecution and temptation. He leads them in the ways of righteousness, and causes them to rest on his love and faithfulness. The proud and self-sufficient, are enemies of the true gospel and of believers; against such we must guard. He has rest for disquieted saints, and terror for presumptuous sinners.

Verses 17-31 The whole nation seemed to be the Lord's flock, yet they were very different characters; but he knew how to distinguish between them. By good pastures and deep waters, are meant the pure word of God and the dispensing of justice. The latter verses, ( 23-31 ) , prophesy of Christ, and of the most glorious times of his church on earth. Under Him, as the good Shepherd, the church would be a blessing to all around. Christ, though excellent in himself, was as a tender plant out of a dry ground. Being the Tree of life, bearing all the fruits of salvation, he yields spiritual food to the souls of his people. Our constant desire and prayer should be, that there may be showers of blessings in every place where the truth of Christ is preached; and that all who profess the gospel may be filled with fruits of righteousness.

Chapter Summary

INTRODUCTION TO EZEKIEL 34

In the former chapter the prophet prophesies against the people of the Jews, both those of the captivity, and those who were not; and here against the shepherds of Israel. This he is bid to do, Eze 34:1,2, whose cruelty to the flock, negligence and unfaithfulness are exposed, Eze 34:3-6, for which reasons they are threatened to be deprived of their office, Eze 34:7-10, and the Lord promises to take the care of the flock upon himself, to seek out his sheep, and feed them, and do every kind office to them, Eze 34:11-16 and then the strong of the flock, that oppressed the weak, are threatened with punishment, Eze 34:17-22 and the promise of the Messiah, as the shepherd of the flock, is made, under whom all prosperity and happiness might be expected, Eze 34:23-31.
