8 »¡Se me ocurre una idea! Llega a un acuerdo con mi amo, el rey de Asiria. Yo te daré dos mil caballos, ¡si es que puedes encontrar esa cantidad de hombres para que los monten!

Isaiah 36:8

Now therefore give pledges to my master the king of Assyria,
&c.] Or; "hostages" ^F8; that thou wilt not rebel against him, but be faithful to him, and he will withdraw his army; or give security for the horses after promised: "or mingle thyself with him"; agree the matter with him, give pledges for future fidelity; or join in battle with him, come out and fight him, if able: and I will give thee two thousand horses, if thou be able on thy part
to set riders on them;
thus scoffing at him, as if he had not so many soldiers to bring out against him; or so many men in his kingdom as had skill enough to ride a horse; in his bravado he signifies, that if he would come out and fight him, he would lend him so many horses, if he could put men upon them, to assist him; this he said as boasting of his master's strength and power, and in scorn and derision at Hezekiah's weakness.

6 ¿Con Egipto? Si te apoyas en Egipto, será como una caña que se quiebra bajo tu peso y te atraviesa la mano. ¡El faraón, rey de Egipto, no es nada confiable!

7 »Tal vez me digas: “¡Confiamos en el Señor
nuestro Dios!”; pero ¿no es él a quien Ezequías insultó? ¿Acaso no fue Ezequías quien derribó sus santuarios y altares, e hizo que todos en Judá y en Jerusalén adoraran solo en el altar que hay aquí, en Jerusalén?

8 »¡Se me ocurre una idea! Llega a un acuerdo con mi amo, el rey de Asiria. Yo te daré dos mil caballos, ¡si es que puedes encontrar esa cantidad de hombres para que los monten!

9 Con tu pequeño ejército, ¿cómo se te ocurre desafiar siquiera al contingente más débil de las tropas de mi amo, aunque contaras con la ayuda de los carros de guerra y sus conductores de Egipto?

10 Es más, ¿crees que hemos invadido tu tierra sin la dirección del Señor
? El Señor
mismo nos dijo: “¡Ataquen esta tierra y destrúyanla!”».
