2 Esto dice el Señor
:
«Del norte viene un diluvio
que inundará la tierra.
Destruirá la tierra y todo lo que hay en ella,
tanto las ciudades como sus habitantes.
La gente gritará de terror,
y todos en la tierra gemirán.

Jeremiah 47:2

Thus saith the Lord, behold, waters rise up out of the north,
&c.] Meaning an army of men, which should come in great numbers, and with great force and rapidity, like an overflowing flood. So the Targum,

``behold, people shall come from the north;''

that is, from Chaldea, which lay north of Palestine: and shall be an overflowing flood, and shall overflow the land, and all
that is therein;
or, "the fulness of it" ^F21; the land of the Philistines, and carry off the men and cattle, and all the riches thereof; the city, and them that dwell therein;
not any particular or single city, as Gaza; but the several cities of Palestine, and the inhabitants of them: then the men shall cry, and all the inhabitants of the land shall howl;
not being able to do anything else; not to defend themselves, their families, and property; and seeing nothing but ruin and destruction before their eyes.

1 Mensaje acerca de Filistea
Este es el mensaje que el profeta Jeremías recibió del Señor
acerca de los filisteos de Gaza, antes de que la ciudad fuera conquistada por el ejército egipcio.

2 Esto dice el Señor
:
«Del norte viene un diluvio
que inundará la tierra.
Destruirá la tierra y todo lo que hay en ella,
tanto las ciudades como sus habitantes.
La gente gritará de terror,
y todos en la tierra gemirán.

3 Escuchen el ruido de los cascos de los caballos
y el estruendo de las ruedas de los carros de guerra al pasar.
Los padres aterrorizados corren desesperados,
ni siquiera miran hacia atrás para ver a sus hijos indefensos.

4 »Ha llegado el momento de destruir a los filisteos,
junto con sus aliados de Tiro y Sidón.
Sí, el Señor
está destruyendo a los pocos que quedan de los filisteos,
a esos colonos de la isla de Creta.

5 Gaza será humillada, su cabeza rapada;
Ascalón quedará en silencio.
Ustedes, los que quedan de las costas mediterráneas,
¿hasta cuándo se lamentarán y harán duelo?
