Amós 9:1-10

Quinta visión

1 Vi al Señor de pie junto al altar, y él dijo:«Golpea los capiteles de las columnaspara que se estremezcan los umbrales,y que caigan en pedazos sobre sus cabezas.A los que queden los mataré a espada.Ni uno solo escapará,ninguno saldrá con vida.

2 Aunque se escondan en lo profundo del sepulcro,de allí los sacará mi mano.Aunque suban hasta el cielo,de allí los derribaré.

3 Aunque se oculten en la cumbre del Carmelo,allí los buscaré y los atraparé.Aunque de mí se escondan en el fondo del mar,allí ordenaré a la serpiente que los muerda.

4 Aunque vayan al destierro arriados por sus enemigos,allí ordenaré que los mate la espada.Para mal, y no para bien,fijaré en ellos mis ojos».

5 El SEÑOR omnipotente, el Todopoderoso,toca la tierra, y ella se desmorona.Sube y baja la tierracomo las aguas del Nilo, el río de Egipto,y se enlutan todos los que en ella viven.

6 Dios construye su excelso palacio en el cieloy pone su cimiento^[a] en la tierra,llama a las aguas del mary las derrama sobre la superficie de la tierra:su nombre es el SEÑOR.

7 «Israelitas, ¿acaso ustedesno son para mí como cusitas?¿Acaso no saqué de Egipto a Israel,de Creta^[b] a los filisteosy de Quir a los sirios?—afirma el SEÑOR—.

8 Por eso los ojos del SEÑOR omnipotenteestán sobre este reino pecaminoso.Borraré de la faz de la tierra a los descendientes de Jacob,aunque no del todo—afirma el SEÑOR—.

9 Daré la orden de zarandear al pueblo de Israelentre todas las naciones,como se zarandea la arena en una criba,sin que caiga a tierra ni una sola piedra.

10 Morirán a filo de espadatodos los pecadores de mi pueblo,todos los que dicen:“No nos alcanzará la calamidad;¡jamás se nos acercará!”

INTRODUCTION TO AMOS 9

This chapter contains the fifth and last vision the prophet saw; which represents the certain desolation of the land, city, and temple, and the slaughter of all sorts of persons, high and low, none should escape it, Am 9:1; be they where they would, they should be found out, whether in hell or heaven, on the tops of the highest mountains, or in the bottom of the sea, or in a foreign land, since the eyes of the Lord were upon them for evil, Am 9:2-4; nor could they hope to escape, when they considered his greatness and his power, and what he could do, and had done; and how they had behaved towards him, even though they were the people he had brought out of Egypt, Am 9:5-7; but though the sinful kingdom should be destroyed, yet not utterly, a remnant should be saved, Am 9:8-10; and the chapter is concluded with gracious promises of raising up the tabernacle of David fallen down, and of the return of the people of Israel to their own land; and of their settlement and continuance in it, never more to depart from it, Am 9:11-15.
