Profecía contra Edom

1 El SEÑOR me dirigió la palabra:

2 «Hijo de hombre, vuélvete hacia la montaña de Seír y profetiza contra ella.

3 Adviértele que así dice el SEÑOR omnipotente:»“Aquí estoy contra ti, montaña de Seír.Contra ti extenderé mi mano,y te convertiré en un desierto desolado.

4 Tus ciudades quedarán en ruinas,y tú serás una desolación.Entonces sabrán que yo soy el SEÑOR.

5 »”En el día del castigo final de los israelitas, en el tiempo de su calamidad, tú les hiciste la guerra, y has mantenido contra ellos una enemistad proverbial. Por lo tanto,

6 tan cierto como que yo vivo, que te anegaré en sangre, y la sangre te perseguirá. Lo afirma el SEÑOR omnipotente: eres culpable de muerte, y la muerte no te dará tregua.

7 Haré de la montaña de Seír un desierto desolado, y exterminaré a todo el que pase o venga por allí.

8 Llenaré de víctimas tus montes; los que han muerto a filo de espada cubrirán tus colinas, tus valles y los cauces de tus ríos.

9 Para siempre te convertiré en una desolación; tus ciudades quedarán deshabitadas. Entonces sabrás que yo soy el SEÑOR.

10 »”Porque tú has dicho: ‘A pesar de que el Señor viva allí, las dos naciones y los dos territorios serán míos, y yo seré su dueño’.

11 Por eso, tan cierto como que yo vivo, que haré contigo conforme al furor y celo con que tú actuaste en tu odio contra ellos. Lo afirma el SEÑOR. Y cuando yo te castigue me haré conocer entre ellos.

12 Entonces sabrás que yo, el SEÑOR, he oído todas las injurias que has proferido contra las montañas de Israel. Tú dijiste desafiante: ‘¡Están devastados! ¡Ahora sí me los puedo devorar!’

13 Me has desafiado con arrogancia e insolencia, y te he escuchado.

14 »”Así dice el SEÑOR omnipotente: Para alegría de toda la tierra, yo los voy a destruir.

15 Así como se alegraron cuando quedó devastada la herencia del pueblo de Israel, también yo me alegraré de ti. Tú, montaña de Seír, y todo el territorio de Edom, quedarán desolados. Así sabrán que yo soy el SEÑOR”.

Chapter 35

A prophecy against Edom.

Verses 1-9 All who have God against them, have the word of God against them. Those that have a constant hatred to God and his people, as the carnal mind has, can only expect to be made desolate for ever.

Verses 10-15 When we see the vanity of the world in the disappointments, losses, and crosses, which others meet with, instead of showing ourselves greedy of worldly things, we should sit more loose to them. In the multitude of words, not one is unknown to God; not the most idle word; and the most daring is not above his rebuke. In the destruction of the enemies of the church, God designs his own glory; and we may be sure that he will not come short of his design. And when the fulness of the Jews and Gentiles shall come into the church, all antichristian opposers shall be destroyed.

This chapter is a prophecy of the destruction of Edom, which is threatened, Eze 35:1-4, the cause of it, their hatred and slaughter of the Israelites, Eze 35:5-9, their claim of the lands of Israel and Judah for possession, Eze 35:10,11, their blasphemies against the people of God, and the Lord himself, Eze 35:12,13, the aggravation of their ruin, which was irretrievable; that when it was well with others, it should go ill with them; by way of just retaliation, Eze 35:14,15.
