11 Pero yo le respondí:—¡Yo no soy de los que huyen! ¡Los hombres como yo no corren a esconderse en el templo para salvar la vida! ¡No me esconderé!

Nehemiah 6:11

And I said, should such a man as I flee?
&c.] The king's commissioner, who had the conducting and management of the whole affair of building the wall of Jerusalem, on whom it wholly depended; for, should he absent himself, the people would depart and leave their work, and the city and wall be left defenceless, which was what was hoped for from this scheme; and who had expressed such confidence in God, and had had such success:

and who is there, that, being as I am;
in such a post, and in such circumstances, and on whom so much depended:

would go into the temple to save his life?
or where there was little reason to believe it would be preserved long, should he take such a step as that:

I will not go in;
as being neither lawful, nor honourable, nor safe.

9 En realidad, lo que pretendían era asustarnos. Pensaban desanimarnos, para que no termináramos la obra.«Y ahora, Señor, ¡fortalece mis manos!»

10 Fui entonces a la casa de Semaías, hijo de Delaías y nieto de Mehitabel, que se había encerrado en su casa. Él me dijo:«Reunámonos a puerta cerradaen la casa de Dios,en el interior del templo,porque vendrán a matarte.¡Sí, esta noche te quitarán la vida!»

11 Pero yo le respondí:—¡Yo no soy de los que huyen! ¡Los hombres como yo no corren a esconderse en el templo para salvar la vida! ¡No me esconderé!

12 Y es que me di cuenta de que Dios no lo había enviado, sino que se las daba de profeta porque Sambalat y Tobías lo habían sobornado.

13 En efecto, le habían pagado para intimidarme y hacerme pecar siguiendo su consejo. De este modo podrían hablar mal de mí y desprestigiarme.
