2 Chronicles 28:23

For he sacrificed unto the gods of Damascus, which smote him,
&c.] As he foolishly imagined, that they might do him no more hurt; as it is said of the Indians, that they worship the devil, that he may not hurt them; but that a king of Judah should do this is monstrous stupidity; rather therefore the meaning may be, that he worshipped the gods of those that smote him, those of the men or soldiers of Damascus

21 Acaz apanhou algumas coisas do templo do SENHOR, do palácio real e dos líderes e ofereceu-as ao rei da Assíria, mas isso não adiantou.

22 Mesmo nessa época em que passou por tantas dificuldades, o rei Acaz tornou-se ainda mais infiel ao SENHOR.

23 Ele ofereceu sacrifícios aos deuses de Damasco que o haviam derrotado, pois pensava: “Já que os deuses da Síria os têm ajudado, oferecerei sacrifícios a eles para que me ajudem também”. Mas eles foram a causa da sua ruína e da ruína de todo o Israel.

24 Acaz juntou os utensílios do templo de Deus e os retirou de lá. Trancou as portas do templo do SENHOR e ergueu altares em todas as esquinas de Jerusalém.

25 Em todas as cidades de Judá construiu altares idólatras para queimar sacrifícios a outros deuses e provocou a ira do SENHOR, o Deus dos seus antepassados.
