2 Hanani, um dos meus irmãos, veio de Judá com alguns outros homens, e eu lhes perguntei acerca dos judeus que restaram, os sobreviventes do cativeiro,[a] e também sobre Jerusalém.

Nehemiah 1:2

That Hanani, one of my brethren
Either in natural relation, ( Nehemiah 7:2 ) , or being a Jew of the same nation and religion; so Jarchi interprets it, one of my companions or acquaintance:

he and certain men of Judah;
who came from thence to Shushan on some account or another:

and I asked them concerning the Jews that had escaped, which were left
of the captivity;
who were returned from it to their own land; he inquired of their health and prosperity, in what circumstances they were, whether prosperous or adverse, whether they flourished, or were in distress:

and concerning Jerusalem;
whether it was rebuilt, the houses and walls of it, and in what condition it was.

1 Palavras de Neemias, filho de Hacalias:No mês de quisleu, no vigésimo ano, enquanto eu estava na cidade de Susã,
2 Hanani, um dos meus irmãos, veio de Judá com alguns outros homens, e eu lhes perguntei acerca dos judeus que restaram, os sobreviventes do cativeiro, e também sobre Jerusalém.
3 E eles me responderam: “Aqueles que sobreviveram ao cativeiro e estão lá na província passam por grande sofrimento e humilhação. O muro de Jerusalém foi derrubado, e suas portas foram destruídas pelo fogo”.
4 Quando ouvi essas coisas, sentei-me e chorei. Passei dias lamentando-me, jejuando e orando ao Deus dos céus.
5 Então eu disse:SENHOR, Deus dos céus, Deus grande e temível, fiel à aliança e misericordioso com os que te amam e obedecem aos teus mandamentos,
