Divrey Hayamim Alef 7:14 Meaning and Commentary

1 Chronicles 7:14

The sons of Manasseh; Ashriel, whom she bare
The wife of Manasseh, as distinguished from his concubine in the next clause; though the Targum reads, in connection with that,

``whom his Aramitess (or Syrian) concubine bare;''

and then adds,

who also bare Machir the father of Gilead;
so that Ashriel and Machir were brethren; from which Ashriel sprung the family of the Ashrielites, ( Numbers 26:29 Numbers 26:31 ) as from Machir the Machirites, ( Numbers 26:29 Numbers 26:31 ) .

13 The Bnei Naphtali: Yachtziel, and Guni, and Yetzer, and Shallum, the Bnei Bilhah.
14 The Bnei Menasheh: Ashriel, whom his Aramean pilegesh bore; she bore Machir avi Gil’ad;
15 And Machir took an isha from the Chuppim and Shuppim, whose achot’s shem was Ma’achah; and the shem of the second was Tzelophechad, and Tzelophechad had banot.
16 And Ma’achah eshet Machir bore ben, and she called shmo Peresh; and the shem of his brother was Sheresh; and his banim were Ulam and Rakem.
