18 And the Melech Yisroel said unto Yehoshaphat, Did I not tell thee that he would prophesy no tov concerning me, but rah?

Melachim Alef 22:18 Meaning and Commentary

1 Kings 22:18

And the king of Israel said unto Jehoshaphat
Plainly perceiving that the prophet foretold that he should fall in battle:

did not I tell thee that he would prophesy no good concerning me, but
evil?
intimating that this proceeded from spite and malice, from ill will to him and hatred of him, and was not from the Lord, and therefore not to be regarded; he had told him three years ago his life should go for letting Benhadad go; but it had not proved true, and no more would this; and Jehoshaphat being an easy man, and too credulous, believed what Ahab said of the character of this prophet, or otherwise it is not to be accounted for that he should go with him to war after such a declaration made.

16 And HaMelech said unto him, How many times shall I adjure thee [i.e., make thee swear] that thou tell me nothing but that which is true in the Shem of Hashem?

17 And he said, I saw kol Yisroel scattered upon the hills, as Tzon that have not a Ro’eh: and Hashem said, These have no adonim: let them return every man to his bais in shalom.

18 And the Melech Yisroel said unto Yehoshaphat, Did I not tell thee that he would prophesy no tov concerning me, but rah?

19 And he said, Shema Devar Hashem: I saw Hashem sitting on his kisse, and all the Tzva HaShomayim standing by Him on His right hand and on His left.

20 And Hashem said, Who shall persuade Ach’av, that he may go up and fall at Ramot-Gil`ad? And one said one thing, and one said another.
