1 Furthermore, David, the king, said unto all the congregation, Only Solomon, my son, has God chosen; he is young and tender, and the work <em>is</em> great, for the palace <em>is</em> not for man, but for the LORD God.

Then King David said to the whole assembly: “My son Solomon, the one whom God has chosen, is young and inexperienced. The task is great, because this palatial structure is not for man but for the LORD God.
2 Now I have prepared with all my might for the house of my God, gold for the things of gold, and silver for the things of silver, and brass for the things of brass, and iron for the things of iron, and wood for the things of wood; onyx stones, and <em>stones</em> to be set, black stones and of different colours, and all manner of precious stones, and marble stones in abundance.

With all my resources I have provided for the temple of my God—gold for the gold work, silver for the silver, bronze for the bronze, iron for the iron and wood for the wood, as well as onyx for the settings, turquoise, stones of various colors, and all kinds of fine stone and marble—all of these in large quantities.
3 Moreover, because I have my delight in the house of my God, I have in my own treasury, gold and silver, <em>which</em> I have given to the house of my God, over and above all that I have prepared for the house of the sanctuary:

Besides, in my devotion to the temple of my God I now give my personal treasures of gold and silver for the temple of my God, over and above everything I have provided for this holy temple:
4 three thousand talents of gold, of the gold of Ophir, and seven thousand talents of refined silver, to overlay the walls of the houses;

three thousand talents of gold (gold of Ophir) and seven thousand talents of refined silver, for the overlaying of the walls of the buildings,
5 the gold for <em>things</em> of gold, and the silver for <em>things</em> of silver, and for all manner of work <em>to be made</em> by the hands of the workmen. And who <em>then</em> is willing to consecrate <em>the offering</em> of his hands today unto the LORD?

for the gold work and the silver work, and for all the work to be done by the craftsmen. Now, who is willing to consecrate themselves to the LORD today?”
6 Then the princes of the fathers and princes of the tribes of Israel, and the princes of thousands and of hundreds, with the rulers of the king’s work, offered willingly

Then the leaders of families, the officers of the tribes of Israel, the commanders of thousands and commanders of hundreds, and the officials in charge of the king’s work gave willingly.
7 and gave for the service of the house of God five thousand talents of gold and ten thousand daily wages and ten thousand talents of silver and eighteen thousand talents of brass and one hundred thousand talents of iron.

They gave toward the work on the temple of God five thousand talents and ten thousand darics of gold, ten thousand talents of silver, eighteen thousand talents of bronze and a hundred thousand talents of iron.
8 And each one gave the precious stones that they had to the treasure of the house of the LORD, into the hand of Jehiel, the Gershonite.

Anyone who had precious stones gave them to the treasury of the temple of the LORD in the custody of Jehiel the Gershonite.
9 Then the people rejoiced to have offered willingly because with perfect heart they offered willingly to the LORD. Likewise, David the king rejoiced with great joy

The people rejoiced at the willing response of their leaders, for they had given freely and wholeheartedly to the LORD. David the king also rejoiced greatly.
10 and blessed the LORD before all the congregation; and David said, Blessed <em>be</em> thou, LORD God of Israel our father, for ever and ever.

David praised the LORD in the presence of the whole assembly, saying, “Praise be to you, LORD, the God of our father Israel, from everlasting to everlasting.
11 Thine, O LORD, <em>is</em> the greatness and the power and the glory and the victory and the honour, for all things in the heavens and in the earth <em>are thine</em>; thine <em>is</em> the kingdom, O LORD, and thou art exalted as head above all.

Yours, LORD, is the greatness and the power and the glory and the majesty and the splendor, for everything in heaven and earth is yours. Yours, LORD, is the kingdom; you are exalted as head over all.
12 The riches and the glory are before thee, and thou dost reign over all, and in thy hand <em>is</em> power and might and in thy hand the greatness and the strength of all things.

Wealth and honor come from you; you are the ruler of all things. In your hands are strength and power to exalt and give strength to all.
13 Now, therefore, our God, we thank thee, and praise thy glorious name.

Now, our God, we give you thanks, and praise your glorious name.
14 But who <em>am</em> I, and what <em>is</em> my people, that we should be able to offer so willingly after this sort? For all things <em>come</em> of thee and of thine own have we given thee.

“But who am I, and who are my people, that we should be able to give as generously as this? Everything comes from you, and we have given you only what comes from your hand.
15 For we <em>are</em> strangers before thee, and sojourners, as <em>were</em> all our fathers; our days on the earth <em>are</em> as a shadow, and <em>there is</em> no other hope.

We are foreigners and strangers in your sight, as were all our ancestors. Our days on earth are like a shadow, without hope.
16 O LORD our God, all this store that we have prepared to build thee a house for thy holy name <em>comes</em> of thy hand and <em>is</em> all thy own.

LORD our God, all this abundance that we have provided for building you a temple for your Holy Name comes from your hand, and all of it belongs to you.
17 I know also, my God, that thou dost try the heart, and hast pleasure in uprightness. As for me, in the uprightness of my heart I have willingly offered all these things; and now have I seen with joy that thy people, who are present here, have given willingly unto thee.

I know, my God, that you test the heart and are pleased with integrity. All these things I have given willingly and with honest intent. And now I have seen with joy how willingly your people who are here have given to you.
18 O LORD God of Abraham, Isaac, and of Israel, our fathers, keep for ever this purpose in the thoughts of the heart of thy people and prepare their heart unto thee.

LORD, the God of our fathers Abraham, Isaac and Israel, keep these desires and thoughts in the hearts of your people forever, and keep their hearts loyal to you.
19 Likewise, give unto Solomon, my son, a perfect heart, to keep thy commandments, thy testimonies, and thy statutes, and to do all <em>these things</em>, and to build the palace, for which I have made provision.

And give my son Solomon the wholehearted devotion to keep your commands, statutes and decrees and to do everything to build the palatial structure for which I have provided.”
20 Then David said to all the congregation, Now bless the LORD your God. And all the congregation blessed the LORD God of their fathers and bowed down and worshipped before the LORD and the king.

Then David said to the whole assembly, “Praise the LORD your God.” So they all praised the LORD, the God of their fathers; they bowed down, prostrating themselves before the LORD and the king.
21 And they sacrificed sacrifices unto the LORD and offered burnt offerings unto the LORD, on the next day, <em>even</em> a thousand bullocks, a thousand rams, <em>and</em> a thousand lambs, with their drink offerings, and sacrifices in abundance for all Israel.

The next day they made sacrifices to the LORD and presented burnt offerings to him: a thousand bulls, a thousand rams and a thousand male lambs, together with their drink offerings, and other sacrifices in abundance for all Israel.
22 And they ate and drank before the LORD on that day with great gladness. And they made Solomon, the son of David, king the second time and anointed <em>him</em> unto the LORD as ruler and Zadok as priest.

They ate and drank with great joy in the presence of the LORD that day. Then they acknowledged Solomon son of David as king a second time, anointing him before the LORD to be ruler and Zadok to be priest.
23 Then Solomon sat on the throne of the LORD as king instead of David, his father, and was prospered; and all Israel heard him.

So Solomon sat on the throne of the LORD as king in place of his father David. He prospered and all Israel obeyed him.
24 And all the princes and the mighty men and all the sons likewise of King David, submitted themselves unto Solomon, the king.

All the officers and warriors, as well as all of King David’s sons, pledged their submission to King Solomon.
25 And the LORD magnified Solomon exceedingly in the sight of all Israel and bestowed upon him <em>such</em> glory of the kingdom as had not been on any king before him in Israel.

The LORD highly exalted Solomon in the sight of all Israel and bestowed on him royal splendor such as no king over Israel ever had before.
26 Thus David, the son of Jesse, reigned over all Israel.

David son of Jesse was king over all Israel.
27 And the time that he reigned over Israel <em>was</em> forty years; he reigned seven years in Hebron, and he reigned thirty-three <em>years</em> in Jerusalem.

He ruled over Israel forty years—seven in Hebron and thirty-three in Jerusalem.
28 And he died in a good old age, full of days, riches, and glory; and Solomon his son reigned in his stead.

He died at a good old age, having enjoyed long life, wealth and honor. His son Solomon succeeded him as king.
29 Now the acts of David, the king, first and last, behold, they <em>are</em> written in the book of Samuel, the seer, and in the book of Nathan, the prophet, and in the book of Gad, the seer,

As for the events of King David’s reign, from beginning to end, they are written in the records of Samuel the seer, the records of Nathan the prophet and the records of Gad the seer,
30 with all his reign and his might, and the times that went over him and over Israel and over all the kingdoms of the lands.

together with the details of his reign and power, and the circumstances that surrounded him and Israel and the kingdoms of all the other lands.
