GOD'S WORD Translation GW
1 Now concerning the collection for the saints: As I have given orders to the churches of Galatia, even so do ye.
1
Now, concerning the money to be collected for God's people [in Jerusalem]: I want you to do as I directed the churches in Galatia.
2 Upon the first day of the week, let every one of you lay aside in store as God hath prospered him, so that there need be no gatherings when I come.
2
Every Sunday each of you should set aside some of your money and save it. Then money won't have to be collected when I come.
3 And when I come, whomever ye shall approve by your letters I will send to bring your liberality unto Jerusalem.
3
When I come, I will give letters of introduction to the people whom you choose. You can send your gift to Jerusalem with them.
4 And if it be meet that I go also, they shall go with me.
4
If I think it's worthwhile for me to go, they can go with me.
5 Now I will come unto you when I shall pass through Macedonia (for I am passing through Macedonia).
5
After I go through the province of Macedonia, I'll visit you. (I will be going through Macedonia.)
6 And it may be that I will abide, yea, and winter with you,Œthat ye may send me on my journey whithersoever I go.
6
I'll probably stay with you. I might even spend the winter. Then you can give me your support as I travel, wherever I decide to go.
7 For I will not see you now on my way, but I trust to tarry a while with you, if the Lord permit.
7
Right now all I could do is visit you briefly, but if the Lord lets me, I hope to spend some time with you.
8 But I will tarry at Ephesus until Pentecost.
8
I will be staying here in Ephesus until Pentecost.
9 For a great door, and effectual, has opened unto me, and there are many adversaries.
9
I have a great opportunity to do effective work here, although there are many people who oppose me.
10 Now if Timothy come, see that he may be with you without fear, for he worketh the work of the Lord, as I also do.
10
If Timothy comes, make sure that he doesn't have anything to be afraid of while he is with you. He's doing the Lord's work as I am,
11 Let no man therefore despise him, but conduct him forth in peace, that he may come unto me; for I look for him with the brethren.
11
so no one should treat him with contempt. Without quarreling, give him your support for his trip so that he may come to me. I'm expecting him to arrive with the other Christians.
12 Now concerning our brother Apollos: I greatly desired that he should come unto you with the brethren, but it was not at all his will to come at this time; but he will come when it shall be convenient.
12
Concerning Apollos, our brother in the Christian faith: I tried hard to get him to visit you with the other Christians. He didn't want to at this time. However, he will visit you when he has an opportunity.
13 Watch ye; stand fast in the faith; acquit yourselves like men; be strong.
13
Be alert. Be firm in the Christian faith. Be courageous and strong.
14 Let all your things be done with charity.
14
Do everything with love.
15 I beseech you, brethren (ye know the household of Stephanas and that it is the firstfruits of Achaia, and that they have devoted themselves to the ministry of the saints),
15
You know that the family of Stephanas was the first family to be won [for Christ] in Greece. This family has devoted itself to serving God's people. So I encourage you, brothers and sisters,
16 that ye submit yourselves unto such and to everyone that helpeth with us and laboreth.
16
to follow the example of people like these and anyone else who shares their labor and hard work.
17 I am glad about the coming of Stephanas and Fortunatus and Achaicus, for that which was lacking on your part they have supplied.
17
I am glad that Stephanas, Fortunatus, and Achaicus came here. They have made up for your absence.
18 For they have refreshed my spirit and yours; therefore acknowledge ye those who are such.
18
They have comforted me, and they have comforted you. Therefore, show people like these your appreciation.
19 The churches of Asia salute you. Aquila and Priscilla salute you much in the Lord, with the church that is in their house.
19
The churches in the province of Asia greet you. Aquila and Prisca and the church that meets in their house send their warmest Christian greetings.
20 All the brethren greet you. Greet ye one another with a holy kiss.
20
All the brothers and sisters [here] greet you. Greet each other with a holy kiss.
21 The salutation of me, Paul, with mine own hand.
21
I, Paul, am writing this greeting with my own hand.
22 If any man love not the Lord Jesus Christ, let him be anathema. Maranatha!
22
If anyone doesn't love the Lord, let him be cursed! Our Lord, come!
23 The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you.
23
May the good will of the Lord Jesus be with you.
24 My love be with you all in Christ Jesus. Amen.
24
Through Christ Jesus my love is with all of you.
