1 Corinthians 6

1 Dare any of you, having a matter against another, go to be judged before the unjust: and not before the saints?
1 When any of you has a grievance against another, do you dare to take it to court before the unrighteous, instead of taking it before the saints?
2 Know you not that the saints shall judge this world? And if the world shall be judged by you, are you unworthy to judge the smallest matters?
2 Do you not know that the saints will judge the world? And if the world is to be judged by you, are you incompetent to try trivial cases?
3 Know you not that we shall judge angels? How much more things of this world?
3 Do you not know that we are to judge angels—to say nothing of ordinary matters?
4 If therefore you have judgments of things pertaining to this world, set them to judge who are the most despised in the church.
4 If you have ordinary cases, then, do you appoint as judges those who have no standing in the church?
5 I speak to your shame. Is it so that there is not among you any one wise man that is able to judge between his brethren?
5 I say this to your shame. Can it be that there is no one among you wise enough to decide between one believer and another,
6 But brother goeth to law with brother: and that before unbelievers.
6 but a believer goes to court against a believer —and before unbelievers at that?
7 Already indeed there is plainly a fault among you, that you have law suits one with another. Why do you not rather take wrong? Why do you not rather suffer yourselves to be defrauded?
7 In fact, to have lawsuits at all with one another is already a defeat for you. Why not rather be wronged? Why not rather be defrauded?
8 But you do wrong and defraud: and that to your brethren.
8 But you yourselves wrong and defraud—and believers at that.
9 Know you not that the unjust shall not possess the kingdom of God? Do not err: Neither fornicators nor idolaters nor adulterers:
9 Do you not know that wrongdoers will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived! Fornicators, idolaters, adulterers, male prostitutes, sodomites,
10 Nor the effeminate nor liers with mankind nor thieves nor covetous nor drunkards nor railers nor extortioners shall possess the kingdom of God.
10 thieves, the greedy, drunkards, revilers, robbers—none of these will inherit the kingdom of God.
11 And such some of you were. But you are washed: but you are sanctified: but you are justified: in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ and the Spirit of our God.
11 And this is what some of you used to be. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and in the Spirit of our God.
12 All things are lawful to me: but all things are not expedient. All things are lawful to me: but I will not be brought under the power of any.
12 "All things are lawful for me," but not all things are beneficial. "All things are lawful for me," but I will not be dominated by anything.
13 Meat for the belly and the belly for the meats: but God shall destroy both it and them. But the body is not for fornication, but for the Lord: and the Lord for the body.
13 "Food is meant for the stomach and the stomach for food," and God will destroy both one and the other. The body is meant not for fornication but for the Lord, and the Lord for the body.
14 Now God hath raised up the Lord and will raise us up also by his power.
14 And God raised the Lord and will also raise us by his power.
15 Know you not that your bodies are the members of Christ? Shall I then take the members of Christ and make them the members of an harlot? God forbid!
15 Do you not know that your bodies are members of Christ? Should I therefore take the members of Christ and make them members of a prostitute? Never!
16 Or know you not that he who is joined to a harlot is made one body? For they shall be, saith he, two in one flesh.
16 Do you not know that whoever is united to a prostitute becomes one body with her? For it is said, "The two shall be one flesh."
17 But he who is joined to the Lord is one spirit.
17 But anyone united to the Lord becomes one spirit with him.
18 Fly fornication. Every sin that a man doth is without the body: but he that committeth fornication sinneth against his own body.
18 Shun fornication! Every sin that a person commits is outside the body; but the fornicator sins against the body itself.
19 Or know you not that your members are the temple of the Holy Ghost, who is in you, whom you have from God: and you are not your own?
19 Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, which you have from God, and that you are not your own?
20 For you are bought with a great price. Glorify and bear God in your body.
20 For you were bought with a price; therefore glorify God in your body.
