GOD'S WORD Translation GW
1 That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, concerning the Word of Life
1
The Word of life existed from the beginning. We have heard it. We have seen it. We observed and touched it.
2 (for the Life was manifested, and we have seen it, and bear witness, and show unto you that Eternal Life, which was with the Father and was manifested unto us);
2
This life was revealed to us. We have seen it, and we testify about it. We are reporting to you about this eternal life that was in the presence of the Father and was revealed to us.
3 that which we have seen and heard, declare we unto you, that ye also may have fellowship with us; and truly our fellowship is with the Father and with His Son Jesus Christ.
3
This is the life we have seen and heard. We are reporting about it to you also so that you, too, can have a relationship with us. Our relationship is with the Father and with his Son Jesus Christ.
4 And these things write we unto you, that your joy may be full.
4
We are writing this so that we can be completely filled with joy.
5 This then is the message which we have heard from Him and declare unto you: that God is light, and in Him is no darkness at all.
5
This is the message we heard from Christ and are reporting to you: God is light, and there isn't any darkness in him.
6 If we say that we have fellowship with Him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth.
6
If we say, "We have a relationship with God" and yet live in the dark, we're lying. We aren't being truthful.
7 But if we walk in the light, as He is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanseth us from all sin.
7
But if we live in the light in the same way that God is in the light, we have a relationship with each other. And the blood of his Son Jesus cleanses us from every sin.
8 If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us.
8
If we say, "We aren't sinful" we are deceiving ourselves, and the truth is not in us.
9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
9
God is faithful and reliable. If we confess our sins, he forgives them and cleanses us from everything we've done wrong.
10 If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar, and His Word is not in us.
10
If we say, "We have never sinned," we turn God into a liar and his Word is not in us.
