The Complete Jewish Bible CJB
The Bible in Basic English BBE
1 My children, I am writing you these things so that you won't sin. But if anyone does sin, we have Yeshua the Messiah, the Tzaddik, who pleads our cause with the Father.
1
My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may be without sin. And if any man is a sinner, we have a friend and helper with the Father, Jesus Christ, the upright one:
2 Also, he is the kapparah for our sins - and not only for ours, but also for those of the whole world.
2
He is the offering for our sins; and not for ours only, but for all the world.
3 The way we can be sure we know him is if we are obeying his commands.
3
And by this we may be certain that we have knowledge of him, if we keep his laws.
4 Anyone who says, "I know him," but isn't obeying his commands is a liar - the truth is not in him.
4
The man who says, I have knowledge of him, and does not keep his laws, is false, and there is nothing true in him:
5 But if someone keeps doing what he says, then truly love for God has been brought to its goal in him. This is how we are sure that we are united with him.
5
But in every man who keeps his word, the love of God is made complete. By this we may be certain that we are in him:
6 A person who claims to be continuing in union with him ought to conduct his life the way he did.
6
He who says that he is living in him, will do as he did.
7 Dear friends, I am not writing you a new command. On the contrary, it is an old command, which you have had from the beginning; the old command is the message which you have heard before.
7
My loved ones, I do not give you a new law, but an old law which you had from the first; this old law is the word which came to your ears.
8 Yet I am writing you a new command, and its reality is seen both in him and in you, because the darkness is passing away and the true light is already shining.
8
Again, I give you a new law, which is true in him and in you; for the night is near its end and the true light is even now shining out.
9 Anyone who claims to be in this light while hating his brother is still in the dark.
9
He who says that he is in the light, and has hate in his heart for his brother, is still in the dark.
10 The person who keeps loving his brother remains in the light, and there is nothing in him that could make him trip.
10
He who has love for his brother is in the light, and there is no cause of error in him.
11 But the person who hates his brother is in the dark - yes, he is walking in the dark, and he doesn't know where he is going, because the darkness has blinded his eyes.
11
But he who has hate for his brother is in the dark, walking in the dark with no knowledge of where he is going, unable to see because of the dark.
12 You children, I am writing you because your sins have been forgiven for his sake.
12
I am writing to you, my children, because you have forgiveness of sins through his name.
13 You fathers, I am writing you because you have known him who has existed from the beginning. You young people, I am writing you because you have overcome the Evil One.
13
I am writing to you, fathers, because you have knowledge of him who was from the first. I am writing to you, young men, because you have overcome the Evil One. I have sent a letter to you, children, because you have knowledge of the Father.
14 You children, I have written you because you have known the Father. You fathers, I have written you because you have known him who has existed from the beginning. You young people, I have written you because you are strong the Word of God remains in you, and you have overcome the Evil One.
14
I have sent a letter to you, fathers, because you have knowledge of him who was from the first. I have sent a letter to you, young men, because you are strong, and the word of God is in you, and because you have overcome the Evil One.
15 Do not love the world or the things of the world. If someone loves the world, then love for the Father is not in him;
15
Have no love for the world or for the things which are in the world. If any man has love for the world, the love of the Father is not in him.
16 because all the things of the world - the desires of the old nature, the desires of the eyes, and the pretensions of life - are not from the Father but from the world.
16
Because everything in the world, the desire of the flesh, the desire of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father but of the world.
17 And the world is passing away, along with its desires. But whoever does God's will remains forever.
17
And the world and its desires is coming to an end: but he who does God's pleasure is living for ever.
18 Children, this is the Last Hour. You have heard that an Anti-Messiah is coming; and in fact, many anti-Messiahs have arisen now - which is how we know that this is the Last Hour.
18
Little children, it is the last hour; and as you were given word that the Antichrist would come, so now a number of Antichrists have come to you; and by this we are certain that it is the last hour.
19 They went out from us, but they weren't part of us; for had they been part of us, they would have remained with us.
19
They went out from us but they were not of us; if they had been of us they would still be with us: but they went out from us so that it might be made clear that they were not of us.
20 But you have received the Messiah's anointing from HaKadosh, and you know all this.
20
And you have the Spirit from the Holy One and you all have knowledge.
21 It is not because you don't know the truth that I have written to you, but because you do know it, and because no lie has its origin in the truth.
21
I have not sent you this letter because you have no knowledge of what is true, but because you have knowledge, and because that which is false has nothing in common with that which is true.
22 Who is a liar at all, if not the person who denies that Yeshua is the Messiah? Such a person is an anti-Messiah - he is denying the Father and the Son.
22
Who is false but he who says that Jesus is not the Christ? He is the Antichrist who has no belief in the Father or the Son.
23 Everyone who denies the Son is also without the Father, but the person who acknowledges the Son has the Father as well.
23
He who has no belief in the Son has not the Father: he who makes clear his belief in the Son has the Father.
24 Let what you heard from the beginning remain in you. If what you heard from the beginning remains in you, you will also remain in union with both the Son and the Father.
24
But as for you, keep in your hearts the things which were made clear to you from the first. If you keep these things in your hearts you will be kept in the Father and the Son.
25 And this is what he has promised us: eternal life.
25
And this is the hope which he gave you, even eternal life.
26 I have written you these things about the people who are trying to deceive you.
26
I am writing these things to you about those whose purpose is that you may be turned out of the true way.
27 As for you, the Messianic anointing you received from the Father remains in you, so that you have no need for anyone to teach you. On the contrary, as his Messianic anointing continues to teach you about all things, and is true, not a counterfeit, so, just as he taught you, remain united with him.
27
As for you, the Spirit which he gave you is still in you, and you have no need of any teacher; but as his Spirit gives you teaching about all things, and is true and not false, so keep your hearts in him, through the teaching which he has given you.
28 And now, children, remain united with him; so that when he appears, we may have confidence and not shrink back from him in shame at his coming.
28
And now, my children, keep your hearts in him; so that at his revelation, we may have no fear or shame before him at his coming.
29 If you know that he is righteous, you should also know that he is the Father of everyone who does what is right.
29
If you have knowledge that he is upright, it is clear to you that everyone who does righteousness is his offspring.
