1 Peter 4

HNV

NIV

1 Forasmuch then as Messiah suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves also with the same mind; for he who has suffered in the flesh has ceased from sin;
1 Therefore, since Christ suffered in his body, arm yourselves also with the same attitude, because whoever suffers in the body is done with sin.
2 that you no longer should live the rest of your time in the flesh to the lusts of men, but to the will of God.
2 As a result, they do not live the rest of their earthly lives for evil human desires, but rather for the will of God.
3 For we have spent enough of our past time living in doing the desire of the Goyim, and to have walked in lasciviousness, lusts, drunken binges, orgies, carousings, and abominable idolatries.
3 For you have spent enough time in the past doing what pagans choose to do—living in debauchery, lust, drunkenness, orgies, carousing and detestable idolatry.
4 They think it is strange that you don't run with them into the same excess of riot, blaspheming:
4 They are surprised that you do not join them in their reckless, wild living, and they heap abuse on you.
5 who will give account to him who is ready to judge the living and the dead.
5 But they will have to give account to him who is ready to judge the living and the dead.
6 For to this end was the Good News preached even to the dead, that they might be judged indeed as men in the flesh, but live as to God in the spirit.
6 For this is the reason the gospel was preached even to those who are now dead, so that they might be judged according to human standards in regard to the body, but live according to God in regard to the spirit.
7 But the end of all things is near. Therefore be of sound mind, self-controlled, and sober in prayer.
7 The end of all things is near. Therefore be alert and of sober mind so that you may pray.
8 And above all things be earnest in your love among yourselves, for love covers a multitude of sins.
8 Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins.
9 Be hospitable one to another without grumbling.
9 Offer hospitality to one another without grumbling.
10 According as each has received a gift, be ministering it among yourselves, as good stewards of the grace of God in its various forms.
10 Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.
11 If any man speaks, let it be as it were oracles of God. If any man serves, let it be as of the strength which God supplies, that in all things God may be glorified through Yeshua the Messiah, to whom belong the glory and the dominion forever and ever. Amein.
11 If anyone speaks, they should do so as one who speaks the very words of God. If anyone serves, they should do so with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ. To him be the glory and the power for ever and ever. Amen.
12 Beloved, don't be astonished at the fiery trial which has come upon you, to test you, as though a strange thing happened to you.
12 Dear friends, do not be surprised at the fiery ordeal that has come on you to test you, as though something strange were happening to you.
13 But because you are partakers of Messiah's sufferings, rejoice; that at the revelation of his glory also you may rejoice with exceeding joy.
13 But rejoice inasmuch as you participate in the sufferings of Christ, so that you may be overjoyed when his glory is revealed.
14 If you are insulted for the name of Messiah, blessed are you; because the Spirit of glory and of God rests on you. On their part he is blasphemed, but on your part he is glorified.
14 If you are insulted because of the name of Christ, you are blessed, for the Spirit of glory and of God rests on you.
15 For let none of you suffer as a murderer, or a thief, or an evil doer, or as a meddler in other men's matters.
15 If you suffer, it should not be as a murderer or thief or any other kind of criminal, or even as a meddler.
16 But if one of you suffers for being a Messianic, let him not be ashamed; but let him glorify God in this matter.
16 However, if you suffer as a Christian, do not be ashamed, but praise God that you bear that name.
17 For the time [has come] for judgment to begin at the house of God. If it begins first at us, what will happen to those who don't obey the Good News of God?
17 For it is time for judgment to begin with God’s household; and if it begins with us, what will the outcome be for those who do not obey the gospel of God?
18 "If it is hard for the righteous to be saved, what will happen to the ungodly and the sinner?"
18 And, “If it is hard for the righteous to be saved, what will become of the ungodly and the sinner?”
19 Therefore let them also who suffer according to the will of God in doing good entrust their souls to him, as to a faithful Creator.
19 So then, those who suffer according to God’s will should commit themselves to their faithful Creator and continue to do good.
