1 Salomón construye el templo<br />Fue a mediados de la primavera, en el mes de <br /> durante el cuarto año de su reinado, que Salomón comenzó a construir el templo del Señor<br />. Habían pasado cuatrocientos ochenta años desde el día en que el pueblo de Israel fue rescatado de su esclavitud en la tierra de Egipto.

In the four hundred and eightieth year after the Israelites came out of Egypt, in the fourth year of Solomon’s reign over Israel, in the month of Ziv, the second month, he began to build the temple of the LORD.
2 El templo que el rey Salomón construyó para el Señor<br /> medía veintisiete metros y medio de largo, nueve metros de ancho, y trece metros y medio de alto.

The temple that King Solomon built for the LORD was sixty cubits long, twenty wide and thirty high.
3 La antesala que estaba al frente del templo medía nueve metros<br /> de ancho, coincidía con la anchura total del templo, y se proyectaba cuatro metros y medio<br /> hacia el frente.

The portico at the front of the main hall of the temple extended the width of the temple, that is twenty cubits, and projected ten cubits from the front of the temple.

He made narrow windows high up in the temple walls.

Against the walls of the main hall and inner sanctuary he built a structure around the building, in which there were side rooms.
6 El complejo era de tres pisos; el piso de abajo tenía un ancho de dos metros con treinta centímetros, el piso de en medio, dos metros con ochenta centímetros; y el piso de arriba, tres metros con veinte centímetros.<br /> Las habitaciones estaban unidas a las paredes del templo mediante vigas apoyadas en cornisas que sobresalían de las paredes; de modo que las vigas no estaban insertadas dentro de las paredes mismas.

The lowest floor was five cubits wide, the middle floor six cubits and the third floor seven. He made offset ledges around the outside of the temple so that nothing would be inserted into the temple walls.
7 Las piedras que se usaron en la construcción del templo se labraban en las canteras, de modo que no hubo ruido de martillo, ni de hacha, ni de ninguna otra herramienta de hierro en el lugar de la obra.

In building the temple, only blocks dressed at the quarry were used, and no hammer, chisel or any other iron tool was heard at the temple site while it was being built.
8 La entrada al piso de abajo<br /> estaba en el lado sur del templo. Había una escalera de caracol para subir al piso de en medio, y otro tramo de escaleras entre el piso de en medio y el piso de arriba.

The entrance to the lowest floor was on the south side of the temple; a stairway led up to the middle level and from there to the third.
9 Una vez terminada la estructura del templo, Salomón puso un techo de vigas y tablas de cedro.

So he built the temple and completed it, roofing it with beams and cedar planks.
10 Como ya se dijo, construyó un complejo de habitaciones contra tres lados del edificio, unidas a las paredes del templo mediante vigas de cedro. Cada piso del complejo tenía una altura de dos metros con treinta centímetros.

And he built the side rooms all along the temple. The height of each was five cubits, and they were attached to the temple by beams of cedar.
11 Entonces el Señor<br /> le dio el siguiente mensaje a Salomón:

The word of the LORD came to Solomon:
12 «En cuanto a este templo que estás construyendo, si tú sigues todos mis decretos y ordenanzas y obedeces todos mis mandatos, yo cumpliré por medio de ti la promesa que le hice a tu padre, David.

“As for this temple you are building, if you follow my decrees, observe my laws and keep all my commands and obey them, I will fulfill through you the promise I gave to David your father.
13 Viviré entre los israelitas y nunca abandonaré a mi pueblo Israel».

And I will live among the Israelites and will not abandon my people Israel.”
14 El interior del templo<br />Así que Salomón terminó de construir el templo.

So Solomon built the temple and completed it.
15 Todo el interior, desde el piso hasta el techo, estaba recubierto con paneles de madera. Recubrió las paredes y el techo con paneles de cedro y para el piso utilizó tablas de ciprés.

He lined its interior walls with cedar boards, paneling them from the floor of the temple to the ceiling, and covered the floor of the temple with planks of juniper.
16 Salomón separó un espacio para el santuario interior —el Lugar Santísimo— al fondo del templo. Tenía nueve metros de profundidad y estaba recubierto con cedro desde el piso hasta el techo.

He partitioned off twenty cubits at the rear of the temple with cedar boards from floor to ceiling to form within the temple an inner sanctuary, the Most Holy Place.
17 El salón principal del templo, fuera del Lugar Santísimo, medía dieciocho metros<br /> de largo.

The main hall in front of this room was forty cubits long.
18 En todo el templo las paredes de piedra estaban recubiertas con madera de cedro, y el recubrimiento estaba decorado con tallas de calabazas y flores abiertas.

The inside of the temple was cedar, carved with gourds and open flowers. Everything was cedar; no stone was to be seen.

He prepared the inner sanctuary within the temple to set the ark of the covenant of the LORD there.
20 Este santuario interior medía nueve metros de largo, nueve metros de ancho y nueve metros de alto. Salomón revistió el interior con oro macizo; también revistió el altar, que estaba hecho de cedro.

The inner sanctuary was twenty cubits long, twenty wide and twenty high. He overlaid the inside with pure gold, and he also overlaid the altar of cedar.
21 Luego revistió el resto del interior del templo con oro macizo y fabricó cadenas de oro para proteger la entrada<br /> al Lugar Santísimo.

Solomon covered the inside of the temple with pure gold, and he extended gold chains across the front of the inner sanctuary, which was overlaid with gold.
22 Así terminó de revestir con oro todo el templo, incluido el altar que pertenecía al Lugar Santísimo.

So he overlaid the whole interior with gold. He also overlaid with gold the altar that belonged to the inner sanctuary.
23 Hizo, además, dos querubines con madera de olivo silvestre y los puso en el santuario interior;<br /> cada uno medía cuatro metros y medio<br /> de altura.

For the inner sanctuary he made a pair of cherubim out of olive wood, each ten cubits high.

One wing of the first cherub was five cubits long, and the other wing five cubits—ten cubits from wing tip to wing tip.

The second cherub also measured ten cubits, for the two cherubim were identical in size and shape.

The height of each cherub was ten cubits.

He placed the cherubim inside the innermost room of the temple, with their wings spread out. The wing of one cherub touched one wall, while the wing of the other touched the other wall, and their wings touched each other in the middle of the room.

He overlaid the cherubim with gold.
29 Salomón decoró todas las paredes del santuario interior y del salón principal con tallas de querubines, palmeras y flores abiertas;

On the walls all around the temple, in both the inner and outer rooms, he carved cherubim, palm trees and open flowers.

He also covered the floors of both the inner and outer rooms of the temple with gold.
31 Para la entrada del santuario interior, hizo puertas de dos hojas de madera de olivo silvestre, y los marcos tenían forma pentagonal.

For the entrance to the inner sanctuary he made doors out of olive wood that were one fifth of the width of the sanctuary.
32 Estas puertas estaban decoradas con tallas de querubines, palmeras y flores abiertas. Las puertas, con las decoraciones de querubines y palmeras, estaban revestidas de oro.

And on the two olive-wood doors he carved cherubim, palm trees and open flowers, and overlaid the cherubim and palm trees with hammered gold.

In the same way, for the entrance to the main hall he made doorframes out of olive wood that were one fourth of the width of the hall.

He also made two doors out of juniper wood, each having two leaves that turned in sockets.

He carved cherubim, palm trees and open flowers on them and overlaid them with gold hammered evenly over the carvings.

And he built the inner courtyard of three courses of dressed stone and one course of trimmed cedar beams.

The foundation of the temple of the LORD was laid in the fourth year, in the month of Ziv.
38 Terminaron de construir todo el edificio hasta los últimos detalles a mediados del otoño, en el mes de <br /> a los once años de su reinado. Así que la construcción del templo duró siete años.

In the eleventh year in the month of Bul, the eighth month, the temple was finished in all its details according to its specifications. He had spent seven years building it.
