1 Thessalonians 1

TMB

GW

1 Paul, and Silvanus, and Timothy, Unto the church of the Thessalonians which is in God the Father and in the Lord Jesus Christ: Grace be unto you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
1 From Paul, Silas, and Timothy. To the church at Thessalonica united with God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. Good will and peace are yours!
2 We give thanks to God always for you all, making mention of you in our prayers,
2 We always thank God for all of you as we remember you in our prayers.
3 remembering without ceasing your work of faith, and labor of love, and patience of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ, in the sight of God and our Father,
3 In the presence of our God and Father, we never forget that your faith is active, your love is working hard, and your confidence in our Lord Jesus Christ is enduring.
4 knowing, brethren beloved, of your election by God.
4 Brothers and sisters, we never forget this because we know that God loves you and has chosen you.
5 For our Gospel came unto you not in word only, but also in power and in the Holy Ghost and in much assurance, as ye know what manner of men we were among you for your sake.
5 We know this because the Good News we brought came to you not only with words but also with power, with the Holy Spirit, and with complete certainty. In the same way you know what kind of people we were while we were with you and the good things we did for you.
6 And ye became followers of us and of the Lord, having received the Word in much affliction, with the joy of the Holy Ghost,
6 You imitated us and the Lord. In spite of a lot of suffering, you welcomed God's word with the kind of joy that the Holy Spirit gives.
7 so that ye were examples to all who believe in Macedonia and Achaia.
7 This way, you became a model for all the believers in the province of Macedonia and Greece.
8 For from you sounded forth the Word of the Lord, not only in Macedonia and Achaia, but also in every place your faith to Godward is spread abroad, so that we need not speak anything.
8 From you the Lord's word has spread out not only through the province of Macedonia and Greece but also to people everywhere who have heard about your faith in God. We don't need to say a thing about it.
9 For they themselves show of us what manner of entering in we had unto you, and how ye turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God,
9 They talk about how you welcomed us when we arrived. They even report how you turned away from false gods to serve the real, living God
10 and to wait for His Son from Heaven, whom He raised from the dead, even Jesus, who delivered us from the wrath to come.
10 and to wait for his Son to come from heaven. His Son is Jesus, whom he brought back to life. Jesus is the one who rescues us from [God's] coming anger.
