1 Chronicles 13

LEB 1 And David consulted with the commanders of thousands and hundreds, with every leader. NIV 1 David conferred with each of his officers, the commanders of thousands and commanders of hundreds. LEB 2 And David said to all the assembly of Israel, "{If it seems good to you} and before Yahweh our God, {let us send word abroad} to our brothers who remain in all the land of Israel and [to] the priests and Levites with them in the cities with their pasturelands that they might be gathered to us. NIV 2 He then said to the whole assembly of Israel, “If it seems good to you and if it is the will of the LORD our God, let us send word far and wide to the rest of our people throughout the territories of Israel, and also to the priests and Levites who are with them in their towns and pasturelands, to come and join us. LEB 3 Then let us bring around the ark of our God to us, for we did not seek it in the days of Saul." NIV 3 Let us bring the ark of our God back to us, for we did not inquire of it during the reign of Saul.” LEB 4 And all the assembly agreed to do so, for the word was pleasing in the eyes of all the people. NIV 4 The whole assembly agreed to do this, because it seemed right to all the people. LEB 5 And David summoned all Israel from Shihor of Egypt up to Lebo-Hamath to bring the ark of God from Kiriath-Jearim. NIV 5 So David assembled all Israel, from the Shihor River in Egypt to Lebo Hamath, to bring the ark of God from Kiriath Jearim. LEB 6 And David and all Israel went up to Baalah, Kiriath-Jearim of Judah, to bring up from there the ark of Yahweh God [who] is enthroned [between] the cherubim, which is called the name. NIV 6 David and all Israel went to Baalah of Judah (Kiriath Jearim) to bring up from there the ark of God the LORD, who is enthroned between the cherubim—the ark that is called by the Name. LEB 7 And they carried the ark of God upon a new cart from the house of Abinadab, and Uzza and Ahio were driving the cart. NIV 7 They moved the ark of God from Abinadab’s house on a new cart, with Uzzah and Ahio guiding it. LEB 8 Now David and all Israel were celebrating before God with all [their] strength, and with songs, lyres, harps, tambourines, cymbals, and trumpets. NIV 8 David and all the Israelites were celebrating with all their might before God, with songs and with harps, lyres, timbrels, cymbals and trumpets. LEB 9 And when they came to the threshing floor of Kidon, Uzza reached out his hand to hold the ark because the cattle had stumbled. NIV 9 When they came to the threshing floor of Kidon, Uzzah reached out his hand to steady the ark, because the oxen stumbled. LEB 10 And Yahweh {was angry} with Uzza, and he struck him down because he reached his hand upon the ark. And he died there before God. NIV 10 The LORD’s anger burned against Uzzah, and he struck him down because he had put his hand on the ark. So he died there before God. LEB 11 And David {was angry} because Yahweh had broken out in wrath against Uzza. And that place is called Perez Uzza unto this day. NIV 11 Then David was angry because the LORD’s wrath had broken out against Uzzah, and to this day that place is called Perez Uzzah. LEB 12 And David feared God on that day, saying, "How can I bring the ark of God [home] to me?" NIV 12 David was afraid of God that day and asked, “How can I ever bring the ark of God to me?” LEB 13 So David did not move the ark to himself into the city of David but diverted it to the house of Obed-Edom the Gittite. NIV 13 He did not take the ark to be with him in the City of David. Instead, he took it to the house of Obed-Edom the Gittite. LEB 14 And the ark of God remained with the household of Obed-Edom in his house three months. And Yahweh blessed the household of Obed-Edom and all that he had. NIV 14 The ark of God remained with the family of Obed-Edom in his house for three months, and the LORD blessed his household and everything he had.
