1 Concerning the collection of money for God's people: You should do what I have directed the churches in Galatia to do.
1 Now about the collection for the Lord’s people: Do what I told the Galatian churches to do.
2 On the first day of the week, each of you should set aside whatever you can afford from what you earn so that the collection won't be delayed until I come.
2 On the first day of every week, each one of you should set aside a sum of money in keeping with your income, saving it up, so that when I come no collections will have to be made.
3 Then when I get there, I'll send whomever you approve to Jerusalem with letters of recommendation to bring your gift.
3 Then, when I arrive, I will give letters of introduction to the men you approve and send them with your gift to Jerusalem.
4 If it seems right for me to go too, they'll travel with me.
4 If it seems advisable for me to go also, they will accompany me.
5 I'll come to you after I go through Macedonia, and because I'm going through Macedonia,
5 After I go through Macedonia, I will come to you—for I will be going through Macedonia.
6 I may stay with you or even spend the winter there in Corinth so that you can send me on my way to wherever I'm off to next.
6 Perhaps I will stay with you for a while, or even spend the winter, so that you can help me on my journey, wherever I go.
7 I don't want to make a quick visit to you, since I hope to spend some time with you if the Lord lets it happen.
7 For I do not want to see you now and make only a passing visit; I hope to spend some time with you, if the Lord permits.
8 I'll stay here in Ephesus until the Festival of Pentecost.
8 But I will stay on at Ephesus until Pentecost,
9 In spite of the fact that there are many opponents, a big and productive opportunity has opened up for my mission here.
9 because a great door for effective work has opened to me, and there are many who oppose me.
10 If Timothy comes to you, be sure that he has no reason to be afraid while he's with you, because he does the work of the Lord just like I do.
10 When Timothy comes, see to it that he has nothing to fear while he is with you, for he is carrying on the work of the Lord, just as I am.
11 So don't let anyone disrespect him, but send him on in peace so he can join me. I'm waiting for him along with the brothers and sisters.
11 No one, then, should treat him with contempt. Send him on his way in peace so that he may return to me. I am expecting him along with the brothers.
12 Concerning Apollos our brother: I strongly encouraged him to visit you with the brothers and sisters, but he didn't want to go now. He'll come when he has an opportunity.
12 Now about our brother Apollos: I strongly urged him to go to you with the brothers. He was quite unwilling to go now, but he will go when he has the opportunity.
13 Stay awake, stand firm in your faith, be brave, be strong.
13 Be on your guard; stand firm in the faith; be courageous; be strong.
14 Everything should be done in love.
14 Do everything in love.
15 Brothers and sisters, I encourage you to do something else. You know that the people in Stephanas' household were the first crop of the harvest to come from the mission to Achaia. They have dedicated themselves to the service of God's people.
15 You know that the household of Stephanas were the first converts in Achaia, and they have devoted themselves to the service of the Lord’s people. I urge you, brothers and sisters,
16 So accept the authority of people like them and of anyone who cooperates and works hard.
16 to submit to such people and to everyone who joins in the work and labors at it.
17 I'm so happy that Stephanas, Fortunatus, and Achaicus have arrived; they've made up for my missing you.
17 I was glad when Stephanas, Fortunatus and Achaicus arrived, because they have supplied what was lacking from you.
18 Indeed they've provided my spirit and yours with a much-needed rest. Therefore, give them proper recognition.
18 For they refreshed my spirit and yours also. Such men deserve recognition.
19 The churches in the province of Asia greet you. Aquila and Prisca greet you warmly in the Lord, together with the church that meets in their house.
19 The churches in the province of Asia send you greetings. Aquila and Priscilla greet you warmly in the Lord, and so does the church that meets at their house.
20 All the brothers and sisters greet you. You in turn should greet each other with a holy kiss.
20 All the brothers and sisters here send you greetings. Greet one another with a holy kiss.
21 Here is my greeting in my own handwriting—Paul.
21 I, Paul, write this greeting in my own hand.
22 A curse on anyone who doesn't love the Lord. Come, Lord!
22 If anyone does not love the Lord, let that person be cursed! Come, Lord !
23 The grace of the Lord Jesus be with you.
23 The grace of the Lord Jesus be with you.
24 My love is with all of you in Christ Jesus.
24 My love to all of you in Christ Jesus. Amen.
